nufc4ever 0
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ity/6135206.stm Cardiff line up Man Utd's Smith Manchester United have accepted an offer from Cardiff City to take England striker Alan Smith on loan, BBC Sport Wales has learned. But a deal depends on the 26-year-old agreeing terms with the Bluebirds. Smith broke an ankle against Liverpool in February and has not played regularly since returning. Cardiff, who top the Championship, need cover as first-choice striker Steve Thompson will be out for most of November with an Achilles injury. The move is thought to have been instigated by Cardiff chairman Peter Ridsdale, formerly Smith's chairman at Leeds. In his time at Leeds, Smith was sent off against Cardiff for elbowing Andy Legg in the Bluebirds' famous 2-1 FA Cup win at Ninian Park in January 2002. Smith is in need of regular football, but since returning to fitness in August he has struggled to force his way into Ferguson's thinking. He was substituted after 60 minutes in the shock Carling Cup defeat to Southend on Tuesday. Would have been a better idea than Rossi IMO.
Gemmill 44427
Shame we weren't on the ball with this one. Would have given us an extra option up front or even in midfield at a push.
nufc4ever 0
Just the kind of player you'd want in your side for a relegation scrap too, i'd imagine. A battler.
Tobias 0
Just the kind of player you'd want in your side for a relegation scrap too, i'd imagine. A battler. If Roeder says that he wants players that will battle and Shola and Owen are out for the season why in the blue f*** dont we go for Smith. Good player who should come. Not keen on loaning players from our rivals though.
geordieshandy 0
I wonder what price they'd let him go for on a permenant deal. Unless they just want to let him get back up to match fitness properly after having so long out.
David Kelly 1224
Unfortunately it's a long since or til they will be our rivals again.
Tobias 0
We should be their biggest rivals haha but unfortunatley look where weve sunk to Man City are more our rivals now
Barney 0
I doubt Fergie would ever let Smith go. He raves about him in interviews. I'd love to have him here though.

wykikitoon 19944
Would have been better than Rossi Well played Ridsdale & the Blue Birds *sigh*
Gemmill 44427
He would have been better than Rossi, but he wasn't fully recovered when the window closed, so he wasn't the one available at that time. As soon as the news came out this morning Roeder should have been on the blower to Ferguson though.

luckyluke 2
Leeds are sniffing round him now. Can't see that happening, he was advised against appearing in Lucas Radebe's testimonial for his own safety.

I know he is coming back from a major injury, but I don't see how Smith going on loan to a championship side proves him right about anything in particular? snakehips 0
Shirley he can't come here on loan as we are still a Premiership club ? i.e. no loans outside the 'window' between Prem clubs. Red nose said for a 'short term loan' anyway - couple of months max?? I have to say Smith is not the type of striker that I think we need now, anyway. Optimistic Nut 110
What we need is goals. Smith doesn't get you that. Look what happened a few years ago with him at Leeds. Played well but because his finishing was poor, they went.
