It's gash, man. With extra big flaps and a raggedy arsed minge.

<_< You either love it or hate it like. Or in the case of you and Gemmill, pretend to love it when we're winning.

I was all for hating it again then they went and made it interesting this morning. Teetering on hatred again now that they've lost too early wickets though.

Interesting days cricket, England with the upper hand and my man Monty is going great guns! So is the other main man in one Mike Hussey! What a gun.

Symonds will be gone by the next test.

Bye bye Giles!

England with the upper hand heading into day 2. I so wish i could go along...

Oh and i found this

It's difficult what to make of today's play without seeing any of the action.

But going by reports on the radio, some of Monty's wickets were off long-hops which must be put down to poor batting rather than good bowling.

From what I've heard, Harmison had a really big day.

Still, with Aus all out for 244, this points to a result in this game - hopefully a win for England - but the lowish score could point to a dodgy wicket rather than a fanstastic performance by England, so I suppose we had better be prepared for another possible poor score from our batsmen in the first innings.

Oh, and is it just me who was thinking (prior to this test starting) that if we had had Panesar in the last test we could have actually won it, let alone draw it, by bowling Australia out on the last day??

Happy enough with the first day. Hopefully Collingwood and Strauss can score well in the morning and set the foundations for an England win. I do worry about Bell though. He can make big scores but he's always such a candidate for dismissals early on in his innings it's not true.

England have to push on from here, although there was a bit of life in the pitch so it's by no means a guarantee. The Aussies kinda got themselves out though with some poor shots at times.

England are showing absolutely zero guts. Apart from the tail. It's ridiculous that 10 and 11 put up the highest partnership of the innings. That being said Harmison and Panesar's knock was great entertainment. The fact that Giles was picked for his batting over Panesar and Monty hits 16 not out and batting comfortably makes the decision to pick Giles look even stupider.

Even if England can bowl Australia out for 250 or so again I'd not back England to chase it down. Looks like the Ashes may be won before you go to the MCG mate.

I hope after this series finishes (ie. the end of this test!) that the selectors/managemtn have the decency to come out and admit thay they completely fucked up any chance we had of retaining the ashes.

The preperation for the biggest even in cricket was a joke and as many cricketing people have pointed out, our players are only now reaching their form as they needed seriously competitive matches to get to that level and didn't have them.

They picked Giles ahead of Monty even though he'd barely played for a year and Monty is easilly the better bowler.

They played Anderson when he'd hardly played any cricket and hasn't done much for a long time.

And laughably they dropped Read who'd done everything they asked of him to play Jones for his batting and he's scored fuck all this series.

If we'd prepared properly, went in with Read, Monty and another bowler for Anderson we may still have lost to the aussies, but at least the managemet and selctors could say they'd done their job and not thrown it all away before we started.

I agree. Time for Fletcher to be put out to pasture IMO, his obsession with bits and pieces players (eg Giles, Jones) over matchwinners such as Monty look to have cost us.

But enough moaning, 8 out of Australian 14 wickets in his first Ashes test, after being written off because he would suffer abuse. At last we have found a spinner, get in Monty!
