LUQUE, EACH TIME MORE NEAR THE NEWCASTLE

The negotiations, that seemed broken, they have been taken up again again after the Newcastle to return to the load in the next hours. Albert Luque, forward of the Sports one of The Coruña, is each time more near putting on file for the Newcastle English, as shows the fact that this morning withdrew of the training of the blue and white team before that the remainder of its companions.

Sources of the Spanish club recognized that that circumstance is an "indication" that the conversations between the blue and white company and the English advance for good road, although for the moment itself has not closed the final agreement for the sale of the international Spaniard.

Although it seemed that the negotiations among both clubs were broken, especially after the Newcastle was interested for the forward one of the Real Madrid Michael Owen, the "magpies", with the ones that the deportivistas were faced in the semifinals of the Intertoto, they returned to the load in the last hours.

Luque, that was in the orbit of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Athletic of Madrid and Seville, al Sports originating in the Majorca in the summer of 2002 arrived and has contract with the club coruñés to June of 2010, with a cancellation clause of 72 million euro.

Am I the only one who thinks FF will decide to buy Viduka for about 2 million as it's cheaper?  :D

Thing is about Viduka is that the lazy git likes being on the sick, and I think Fat Fred has had far FAR too many of those kind of players to be too happy in signing another. :D

Luque latest

Unconfirmed reports from Spain that we are trying to resurrect the deal to bring Albert Luque from Coruna to Tyneside.

Whether that means we've upped our bid is uncertain - or that we hope to exploit the fact that the Spanish side failed to qualify for the UEFA Cup, losing a potential revenue stream in the process.

Perhaps crucially, the departure of Viana on loan to Valencia would make any new bid a purely cash-based one - unless they'd like Faye.....

More to follow....

We aren't that weak actually on strikeforce (well we are but not awful)

Look at Everton, who finished 4th last year with only Duncan Ferguson, Marcus Bent and James Beattie (who was crap anyway) for only half the season.

This is a point i keep making when people make excuses for Souness and blame it all on Shepherd. Plenty of managers have small or weak squads lacking in players they want.

But Moyes with a smaller and far worse squad than ours, with even less strikers managed to finish 4th. The reason being he has good manamgement skills, good coaching, organisation, tactics, morale and motivation and doesn't fall out with his players like a little child.

Souness is a shit manager, Moyes isn't, one took a crap squad to 4th, one took a decent squad to 14th!

I hope that's a bablefish error!

It isn't every player has a (mandatory IIRC) in his contract. Normally they set a ridiculous fee that is never going to get matched.

Magpies still in for luque

Newcastle appear to be closing on the signing of Deportivo La Coruna striker Albert Luque with their move for Michael Owen showing no signs of progressing.

It was thought that The Magpies had given up on the Spain international having declared that Depor had rejected their 'final and best' offer.

It was then revealed they had agreed a fee of over £15 million with Real Madrid for Owen and it seemed Luque had been put on the back-burner.

However, with Owen dragging his heels over the prospect of a permanent move to St James' Park, Graeme Souness is now back in for the Spaniard.

Clearly worried by his side's lack of cutting edge, illustrated by the 2-0 defeat to Bolton on Wednesday night, the Scot is desperate to bring in at least one big-name striker before the transfer deadline and looks ready to push the boat out for Luque.

The player left Depor's training session early on Thursday, a move Spanish sources claim was a clear signal that the transfer to Newcastle was back on.

The Premiership outfit are understood to have already agreed terms with the 27-year-old so they must now concur on a fee with Depor.

With Luque under contract until 2010, the Galicians are not prepared to let the left-sided star leave on the cheap and have already rebuffed bids in the region of £8-10 million.

With Newcastle's need ever more pressing, a £12 million deal now looks on the cards although talks between the two clubs are still ongoing.

I agree with your comments on Moyes. I don't like Souness that much, but it is important to remember he took a little above average team in Blackburn to 6th one season, but the point is with Souness manager, the whole morale of the team tends to go down, unlike if you had a respectable, friendly and approachable manager in Moyes. Souness may not be a total opposite to that, but he doesn't make it out and ends up digging himself a hole he doesn't need to.
