Skeletor 0
So if all the really good managers we approached to replace Graeme Souness turned us down (as if we'd approach any anyway), who would you have as your backup choice for someone who would probably definitely take the job and is still better than Souness? I'd probably go for Paul Jewell. He's an ambitious manager (trying to land Parker, Owen), he can obviously motivate his team, can get them playing real football and fearing no-one. If he had our better players to pick from I'm sure he'd at least get us out of our predicament we're in right now, maybe more.

We have done this with at least the last 3/4 managers and its never worked, it would just be history repeating itself yet again.
geordieshandy 0
For me it has to be Jewel, but there again, he'll think he's better of where he is with a chairman that is loaded and not frightened to splash it about. The other one has to be Curbishley, who is a bit want away due to lack of ambition in the Valley boardroom.
Brock Manson 0
Coleman, think he's got potential to be a good manager and wouldn't have to pay a load of compensation for him seeing as he's facing the sack.

Jewell wouldn't join us, at least not until the end of the season though he's a manager I like. Mike Newell wouldn't be a bad choice if we couldn't attract anyone with more experience, but then again we'd probably end up with Dave Bassett. sweetleftpeg 0
We all know what will happen if/when Souness gets the push. They'll promote Glen Roeder to manager till the end of the season. I'd put my house on it.
Tisd09 0
I suppose Nigel Worthington would be an option. I don't like the idea of Chris Coleman. Orginally I thought he did a very good job but has faultered since. He is very emotional and I am not sure how he would handle the pressure of such a big job just yet. LeazesMag 0
Keegan to restore morale etc...some people and clubs go together.....don't believe it's always a mistake to go back, play on the nostalgia and feeling he has for us the supporters, which is genuine. The Man City team he built has been slowly improving all the time, he's still got it. If he really won't come back, Alex Ferguson or Arsene Wenger. You have to try, both could be ready for a new challenge for different reasons, and the biggest challenge of all to a manager like this is to win Newcastle the title, or the FA Cup and put us back in with a shout of the title. What a way to finish your managerial career. Failing those, up and coming managers, not ones who have failed at other clubs like the likes of clueless. Jewell will move to a bigger club. Moyes is stuck in an Everton club nothing like the one in the 80's. David Hodgson is maybe one for the future, but if you interview and talk to these types of people and assess them you get a better insight, one of them may be much bigger than he has shown so far and destined for more. goldman 0
It would be fucking strange if KK came back to act as Shearter's minder. I don't know whether I'd laugh, shit myself , cheer or sob like a baby.

Paul Jewell! How much respect do you think Shearer would have for him? At least Souness has won a fuckload of trophies. Ferguson? Wenger? Yeah RIGHT! The truth is, Souness is the best of a bad lot for now...sacking him at this stage is a dreadful idea, but sadly I think it'll probably happen.
