Good striker, but not as good a player as Zidane Well if you're going to be picky Mr Hips I shall have to remove Puskas as well then, but on ability alone and for what he done Marco has to be there. I would have included Romario and Muller as well but no doubt Snakey would have picked on that as well.

Renton 21214
Arguing about class football players is as pointless as arguing about music but I maintain Zidane is the greatest footballer of his generation - the "Sky" generation. I also think it's difficult to rate someone who never played for a European club (Pele) or for a half-decent international side (Best). In all honesty I would probably rate Maradona as the greatest individual but Zidane is infinitely more likable tbh. And who else can you watch a 90 min real time documentary on? Guest alex
It's difficult to judge players from a previous era. That said, in all sincerity, Zidane (fabulous player though he was) is only the second best French player I've been lucky enough to watch in my life time. Platini was, for me, slightly better. He was an attacking midfielder/playmaker, in a similar mould to Zidane and was top scorer in Serie A three years running.

What right does that give you to talk about such things. It's all a re-presentation of reality. In other words: poppycock.

Guest Patrokles
It said on the Channel Five coverage that North East journalists were sat at a table, a knife was produced and they were told to 'produce their credentials'. I hope to Christ they weren't referring to journalistic credentials or they'd have ended up being posted back to the UK in envelopes, piece by tiny piece. The subtitles for that bit were great. Instead of 'Journalists', they wrote 'Germans from the northeast were asked to produce their credentials'
