snakehips 0
Not too fond of the Celts then manc-mag? Did you have a bad experience with one of them as a kid? Its not the numbers but the craic and the way they behave that makes them good fans IMO, its only a few years since they got a special award from FIFA for their behaviour in Seville for the UEFA Cup final and it seems that they have a good time with opposing fans wherever they go in Europe. Has the number of fans who travelled reached 100,000 yet? I have a little chuckle to myself whenever this is brought up on the radio. First it was 40,000 then it quickly went to 50,000 and 60,000 and then jumped to 80,000 Just wondered if it had actually reached the 100,000 mark yet. I know a few 'tic fans and they are good lads, but the escalating number of fans that went to Seville tickles me somewhat
ewerk 31218
I don't agree with your comment on not accepting criticism of their club, perhaps we've had different experiences wth Celtic fans but I've found that Celtic fans are the first to criticise their own club and their board especially. I think you have to look at the bigotry in context of the political situation of Ireland where a large part of their fanbase is from, its about more than football and is certainly unique to Britain. If you take the religious/political aspect out of it then its not that different to major city rivalries in England and other countries but the fact that it is about politics/religion means that it may seem strange to people such as yourself who I presume haven't been exposed to that problem on a daily basis as many of the Old Firm fans have. Bigotry is fucking bigotry, there is no context. Rubbish, there is mindless bigotry and there is bigotry as a product of an upbringing in a highly divisive political environment. Anyway you've forfeited you're right to speak on Irish affairs you lyonaise potato munching fuckwit.
ewerk 31218
Yes I am Irish/Catholic but I couldn't give a fuck about the SPL but I'll admit I do like to see Celtic do well in Europe, I guess I'm just a product of my environment. That doesn't mean I'm comepletely pro-Celtic and everything I say regarding bigotry goes for Rangers too, they're simply the other side of the coin. I don't like to see religious bigotry in any shape or form in football, all I'm saying is that I can see and understand why it has become part of the Old Firm rivalry. And I have found that I can criticise Celtic but as I said most of their fans agree with me but each to their own opinion I suppose. Aye mate, fair play and none of the above intended to cause offence. It'd take more than that to offend me
Isegrim 9906
I agree about the bigotry, but the thing is whenever those thousands of Celtic fans are on travel they always leave the place with the locals full of praise for them. There is never any hassle. I experienced it myself in Stuttgart and Munich in the last couple of years. They gather together on the main square and literally drink the shops dry. But the drunkeness does not turn into violence. Strangely that cannot be said about all other fans from the British Island that visited those cities in the last couple of years. It's probably not best to use hooliganism records as a measure as there again on average you'll find that low and behold things balance out and leave them on a par with other 'ordinary' fans. If you discount the bigotry and sectarian violence that is...otherwise that leaves them looking considerably worse. I don't understand this argument at all. I am not aware of any hooliganism records of Celtic fans away at all. But even if there is and it balances out. Why don't other fans behave them same? MattM4 0
Did it happen recently like? As has been said before, if it wasnt the anniversary of his death and there was no other nexus with Celtic, then why were they doing it? Don't get me wrong, obviously I'd rather see fans uniting than having a go at each other and in that sense it's a nice touch, but I dont half get the impression Celtic fans have an overblown opinion of themselves as the greatest in the game. Ahh glad I'm not the only one to think this... a bit strange really, good thing every single club they travel to do it, as you wouldn't want someone's memory being brought up all the time like a roadshow. But anyway, it's all down to he Benfica fans I guess.

Scottish Mag 3
BTW I agree bigotry is bigotry. However I do feel for the genuine supporters, and there are many, who are not bigoted etc yet get labelled with this or see it attached to them any time either of the Old Firm is mentioned. JJ 0
Celtic fans are like any other fans. Some of them are great. Some of them a shit. Personally I can't be bothered with them normally. They have a superiority complex over everyone else, and they're also the most paranoid fans I've ever come across (although Hearts are at the moment trying to challenge for that title). They travel in big number and always go on about having such a big support. When you take into effect that they're from the biggest city in Scotland, have a large appeal all over Scotland due to their success, and of course they pander to their Irish roots to pick up loads of fans from across there. Not to mention the knucklehead brigade who say "Well I'm a catholic, I guess I better support rasellickfootballclubbytheway" then of course they should travel in big numbers. They caused enough trouble in Spain when they played Celta Vigo (I think) on route to Seville, and in Amsterdam a few years previously in a Champions League qualifier to show they're not whiter than white. Sometimes the way the are can be really makes me smile as most of the time when they travel abroad they're brilliant. However when they travel domestically they're nothing but nuisances. I laugh when they try to justify that Rangers are bigots and they aren't by using the "Rangers sing bigoted songs home and away, but we only do it away." moral high ground. Good on them for trying to show their good side on Wednesday. However I listened to the game on the radio and they reported that there were Celtic fans fighting among themselves before kick off. @yourservice 67
A nice touch. The traditional flag they pass over with every opposition's club crest on,just so happens on this occasion it got passed over to the apposing fan's. w0w!

Beautiful maybe, but not big. Bigger than Newcastle mind. In terms of cultural and historical significance it's a damn sight bigger than Manchester too. But it's obviously not a big football city. Anyway Mancmag, who would you rather have a pint with, a bunch of Celtic fans or Rangers fans? I challenge anyone who thinks there is no difference to put that one to the test.
