The Fiver's take on it

FREDDY GETS FINGERED

The Fiver doesn't often get things wrong, but when we do we're always happy to admit it. Take the time a few seconds ago when we wrote "the Fiver doesn't often get things wrong", for example. Or the occasion we confidently predicted that Newcastle's notoriously fickle fans would be calling for Glenn Roeder's head by October of this year. That was back on May 16th, the day of his appointment. But with today being deadline day, there have been few cries of "Roeder oot!" to be heard from St James's Park, mainly because six defeats in nine Premiership matches mean even the fattest, most tattooed, topless Geordies have stopped bothering to go and watch them play.

But it now looks even less likely that Newcastle's fans are likely to start baying for Roeder's blood - because his departure could make way for the arrival of snake-oil salesman Sven-Goran Eriksson who, according to today's Sun, is sniffing after Roeder's job. "To suggest he [sven] is looking at a club where there is another professional coach in situ, it is absolute rubbish to say that. He would never do that," lisped Eriksson's agent Athole Still, conveniently forgetting Chelsea, the MU Rowdies, Aston Villa and about half the clubs in Europe. "It is one thing to say that a club is interested in him - and in this case there has been no contact whatsoever - but to say he has targeted the job of another coach is malicious."

Newcastle chairman Fat Freddy Shepherd, a preposterous spiv whose struggling club's abject failure has provided great amusement for fans everywhere (except in Newcastle, obviously) was equally quick to deny the speculation. "I have not spoken to Sven since he left the England job and I have no intention of speaking to him. Neither have I spoken to his agent," he way-ayed pompously, clearly labouring under the delusion that there are people out there who actually care what he actually says. Talking to Athole or through his own athole - it's six of one and half-a-dozen of the other to the Fiver.

Absolute bollocks if some people are to be believed tbh

Because both Parties have said were not

We probably are.

Allways happens tbh

And so if both parties say we are, then we're not interested?

Err no but it works the other way though

Like with Woodgate and Owen

they were both denied by both parties like the day before

Exactly, why would anyone living outside Newcastle have a clue what people outside Newcastle are saying about the club?

Sven is the best manager we could realistically get IMO.

His record at club level has been excellent nearly everywhere he's been, yes he spent a lot of money at Lazio but no more than we've given Souness and Roeder over the last few years, he also picked up a few bargains along the way (Nedved for less than £3 million)

Being the England manager has enabled him to watch hundreds of Premiership games over the last few years, he would have seen plenty of players who stood out (English and Foreign) who he could mould into a decent team.

I'm 100% behind bringing him in

All well and good but Sven's understanding of english football can be summed up in one name:

Juan Sebastian Veron.

When he insisted to Roman Abramavich that he purchase him from Man U at what must of seemed liked a heaven sent price to taggart, it summed up that Sven would never understand the pace english teams play at - something evident in his team selection throughout his time as England's no.1.

Former England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has reportedly had discussions with officials with a view to taking over as Nigeria's national team coach.

Tord Grip, assistant to the Swede during his time with England, said Eriksson had talks 10 days ago.

"I don't know exactly what those discussions were about. I assume they were about the Nigerian national team," Grip told Swedish Radio.

Eriksson was linked with West Ham and Newcastle but denied both reports.

Meanwhile, there has also been speculation of a return to Benfica and a move to Inter Milan.

Just a snippet I heard today from my source who knows a board member, take it as truth or bullshit;

Martin O'Neil was approached as soon as Souness was given the boot but apparently messed us about for months before the NUFC board finally got sick of him. Don't know the full details of what he was demanding and wht he was pissing about..just that he was the No 1 contender.

He would have been waiting to see what was happening with the England job I imagine. I still think after he was snubbed there he would have taken us over Villa, unless Shepherd put him off.
