Toon eye up Nugent

NEWCASTLE are lining up a double transfer window swoop for strikers David Nugent and Kevin Davies.

Toon boss Glenn Roeder knows he must land some more fire-power in January.

Preston's England U-21 star Nugent, 21, is one of the Championship's most feared hitmen and has attracted interest from a host of top clubs.

And Roeder sees Bolton's Davies, 29, as the type of player who can fill the huge void left by the retirement of Alan Shearer.

Roeder said: "Everyone knows where we need strengthening but I will not give my hand away by revealing who we are after.

"Hopefully, money will be available to bring in the players we need."

The Magpies do not have a lot of money to spend after announcing losses of £12million last week.

But they are negotiating with the FA over compensation for Michael Owen's World Cup injury and that cash will help fund their rebuilding plans.

Roeder also hopes to land defenders Matthew Upson, Wayne Bridge and Lucas Neill.

Fuuuuuuuuuuck me, Kevin Davies. No thanks. Only effective at Bolton due to their abortion of a football style.

Infact, hold on a minute, sign him up.

I'd take Nugent though if the price is isn't too high

They get better...

West Ham United are bracing for a double bid from Newcastle United for striker Dean Ashton and defender Anton Ferdinand.

The Daily Star Sunday says Newcastle will make a major offer for both young players when the winter transfer window opens in January.

Liverpool are also keen on Ferdinand.

Brilliant news everyone. We'll be spending 30million by the looks of it in January. Thank fuck for the accurately reported report there.

Wow, Upson, Bridge, Neil, Davies AND Nugent? Cheers Freddy! I love you!

From what I've heard, Upson & Bridge are serious targets and I hope the link with Ashton has some substance.

Kevin Davies seems to have promise but isn't he getting on a bit? Never made it at Blackburn but was awesome at Southampton and has done a canny job at Bolton.

Anton Ferdinand? No thanks - IMO is still a very unproven player who is in the limelight because of his surname. He has shown promise but I don't think he's anywhere near Rio's level.

Nugent would be a good addition to the squad but I think he'd be approached only if we didn't get someone else (i.e. Ashton).

My opinions exactly.

I think Ashton & Nugent would make an excellent partnership but I very much doubt we'll get Ashton.

Bridge and Upson sound realistic, if Neill is going anywhere it will be to Liverpoo, and the Anton Ferdinand one sounds like the journalist just picked a name and a club out of thin air.

Thing about Neill is he won't be going to a club where he isn't starting 11 and other thing that may sway him is roMoreeio.

Then again after our 12m loss announcement I can't see the club being able to afford to pints of lager and a packet of crisps let alone any of the players mentioned in this thread.

we should have got nugent in the last transfer window. looks a good player. i hope we get him

Said on Saturday (hindsight-tastic) Healy and Nugent would have been a canny bit better than £10million on Martins. Even if the latter comes good he was/is a luxury we couldn't afford, i.e. spukning all our dosh on a player who will need time to settle in.

From what I've heard Roeder's only job this season is to keep us up until Shearer takes over next season so I really can't see us spending much in January at all.

Apparently Shearer already has a list of who he wants in so I would say any decent money moves would have to come with his approval.
