Just extracted this bit from the UK Wire bit today:

Costs relating to changes in team management of £3,192,000 have been charged in

the period (2005: £2,369,000). These comprise staff costs of £2,384,000 (2005:

£2,369,000) and impairment of other intangible fixed assets of £808,000 (2005:

£nil).

What the £808,000 is about I have no idea but we have certainly paid out a whole lot of dosh to managerial failures.

And, shock, horror, no dividend payment. Bet that annoys the Halls!!

Details of fatty's salary will be in the report details that shareholders will receive very soon , I think.

The financial cost of mismanagement coming home to roost. Leazes will tell us that all of this is fine because he backs his managers with money and we get to play in the UEFA Cup.

Your's and others' fault for backing Souness. Others does not include any of the board, obviously.

Newcastle Utd slide to £12m loss

Newcastle United slid to a £12m loss last year after heavy investment in players and a fall in revenues due to its failure to qualify for Europe.

The result is a reversal in financial fortune for the Premiership club which made a £620,000 profit the year before.

Revenues fell by nearly £4m to £87m as an absence of European football reduced match day ticket sales.

Expensive new signings such as England striker Michael Owen, bought from Real Madrid, also pushed up costs.

'Long-term benefits'

Newcastle United chairman Freddy Shepherd said the year - which saw the sacking of manager Graeme Souness and his replacement by Glenn Roeder - as one of "transition" for the club.

"The board believe that the investment it has made in all areas of the club will deliver long-term benefits and will continue to take every step necessary to maximise potential for success both on and off the pitch," he commented.

After finishing seventh in the Premiership last season, Newcastle qualified for European competition which will boost revenues this year.

The club has been surrounded by takeover speculation in recent months with Jersey-based firm Belgravia Group considering a possible bid.

Mr Shepherd said that while discussions were taking place between the two parties, there was no certainty a formal bid would be made.

Doesn't augur well for our transfer kitty.

On the other hand it can only improve the chances of being taken over. Now to find out who it is actually wanting to take over.

Not sure if thats true, Randy Lerner has already said he looked at us as a takeover target but was put off by the debt.

Next years accounts will be even worse I reckon, now that we are officially completely shit and nobody wants to watch us (Talksport have just advised against anyone watching us in the pub tomorrow, because we're rubbish basically).

Expect fuck all transfer money in January too. We're up shit creek basically, I remember predicting this result last year, not thta you need to be a genius to have forseen it.

I think that next year's results will be shit too, but not as bad, the funds from this season's UEFA cup campaign will improve things, and the lack of spending in January will make things look better.

Cannot agree more. The Duff and Martins deals are not included in the figures either (item 7 of the accounts) so after taking off the Faye and Boumsong income, that is roughly another 10mill expenditure. And I'd guess Duff's and Martins wages are more than Fayes and Boumsongs so the 63% figure could be even higher.

The powder is that dry it has all blown away!!

You can probably net Duff and Martins off with Shearer and Boumsong tbh. Don't think the wage percentage will change all that much. It's definitely far too high though - about £11m per year too high. That's not just something that sneaks up on you and all of a sudden your wage bill is too high. Yet further evidence of poor financial planning - it seems the 50% target assumes regular European football. We're so poorly managed at a board room level, that you can't really assume regular anything other than disappointment. We got Europe by the skin of our teeth last year, but I'm not sure we'll get it again come the end of this season.
