So far so good for me.

Has hit the ground running and coped well given the circumstances of his arrival and the fact that his own career had stuttered so badly.

Hearing players comments in the press would suggest he is having a positive impact on training. (I particularly like the way we have started to try new things at free kicks).

I am also pleased that he is getting our current squad tied down.

I think the communication with the journalist, and so us, is better than it has been since Keegan.

The bottom line will be whether this "Kernt" that people talk about will appear once he has his feet under the table.

Hopefully he has learnt from his mistakes and realises what a magnificent opportunity he now has.

No need for you to respond CT. Your positive spin on any and every event, even stretching so far as to contradict your own initial gut reaction has given you a Comical Ali persona. When everything is brilliant you can't really be constructive.

Which bit is the spin?

The players positive comments re the improvements in training?

Tying down Ben Arfa, Barton etc?

Improved communications with the press.

I think the truth is that you have dug yourself so deep into the trenches and cant see that the war is actually over.

No need for you to respond Happy.

You always put the spin on the way you see things and when someone contextualises it you fail to reappear. Dunno how many times I've corrected one of your ridiculously over the top lists of praise of Ashley's "decisions"....as an example...

I'll do it again though.

A player under a new manager saying positive things about him? Unbelievable. He must be really brilliant. How can you even claim that's even relevant? They said the same about Souness, Roeder and Allardyce.

The Ben Arfa and Barton deals were basically done before he got here....I've not heard of anyone showing interest in Barton and he's taken a pay cut to stay....so it's hardly like the manager had to convince the chairman to push the boat out...it was cheaper.

And you'll see nowt but compliments for Hughton's handling of the press on this board.

I've never been particularly negative about our chances this season either by the way. Remember this exchange CT?

its just simply not realistic to aim to finish 7th next year.

I will remind you that the current top 7 looks like this....

Chelsea

Man Utd

Arsenal

Man City

Tottenham

Liverpool

Aston Villa

How on earth you think its realistic to aim for seventh spot and dislodge Villa or Liverpool in our first season back with a limited talent pool of players and a probable limited budget.

This is a weaker team than the one that got relegated. Most of those teams that were better than us then have strengthened while we've been away so simply surviving our first year back will be a great achievement, regardless of our name, reputation or past efforts.

Where has 7th come from?

I think I mentioned I'd rather aim for 7th than 17th but that was more to do with the poetry in the phrase than being what I really though was possible.

It's not unrealistic to aim to emulate Stoke, Birmingham or Fulham next season though is it? 9th or 10th?

Stoke and Birmmingham spent around £20m each since last summer.

Fulham spent....less.

http://www.toontastic.net/board/index.php?...st&p=731197

How you have the gall to claim you were right all along is hilarious.

:( God you're desperate today.

April 2010 I suggest its unrealistic to aim for 7th in our first year back and get called for it.

This year, AFTER a decent start and the addittion of Tiote, Ben Arfa, the form of Carrol, I suggest a european spot may be possible and get called for it.

Cant win with some people. :icon_lol:

My opinion but I think again the statement is true. Hughton was dignified but never really said much. We are hearing a lot more these days whether it is to do with transfer targets, how the games gone or on players. Whether you agree with what he is saying is a different matter, its the communication I referred too.

I also dont particularly blame Hughton for the lack of communication. Its quite clear the "management" didnt have faith in him so he really couldnt say much at all about transfers etc.

With regard to Hughton, He has handled the press well and let the results do the talking.

:(

"Ashley out by the end of the weeko....Ashley's the best!"

"Daft to aim for 7th....No reason we can't finish 7th"

"It's a disgrace they've sacked Hughton....So glad they sacked Hughton!"

"Hughton's been great with the press....Hughton couldn't handle the press but can't be blamed"

I think your a dead canny poster to tell the truth and I like positivity...as my "aim for 7th" comments prove, but you're not giving yourself any credibility. You've done so many 180's your avatar should be Phil 'The Power' Taylor.

Ok, so that reply shows youv've bottled your initial attack, I've won the points discussed so far and you've now moved onto the old Leazes deflect the argument thread. :D

Lets look at this latest of your made up U turns.

I have said in this thread the communication is better under Pardew. That doesnt relate to Hughton was crap, only that its now better.

Its clear the only spinning going on in this thread is your goodself.

You could ad least admit your initial scathing attack was a tad unfair

By all means keep deflecting and spinning but it still wont prove your initial incorrect assessment. :(

Agree about the canny poster bit though :icon_lol:

:(

One nil to CT!

No mate, I've already said why you're damning Pardew with faint praise to say the players lick his arse for now and the players who were due to discuss contracts have signed. No point repeating that to be ignored again.

Hopefully he'll manage something to impress us in the transfer market/from the dugout soon.

  • 2 weeks later...

So, he gave the half time talk of his life, threw a few cups and sent a team out fired up to take the attack to Arsenal.

Is he starting win you over yet?

Too early for a final judgement but I like him.

Seems very passionate and is obviously trying to do the best he can bearing in mind the restraints he's under.

3.45pm Saturday could have been his defining moment in his quest to blow away the Hughton cobwebs from the players.

Apparently went to the quayside on the piss to celebrate as well.

No better than JFK. Trotted out Ashley's line of never selling Carrol and then admitted he was just bluffing all along. And now he's softening up the fans about Tiote.

There's a reason Hughton was sacked and it wasn't down to the performance of the team. They knew he would never have stood for any of this.

Your'e a clown if you can't see through it CT

I'm still 50/50. I'd like him to be a success but I can't shake of the idea he'll bend over to keep Ashley happy because he knows that by rights he shouldn't be in this job.

Same really. Did well at HT and while there's obviously other factors at play you have to give him credit where it's due. At the same time you'd have to be very worried about his (in)ability to do better in the January transfer window. Again there are other factors at play but that in itself arguably makes him (and anyone else in the job) a lame duck.

Honestly, i dont think the manager has any say in who comes in and who goes out anymore

You're too late. You've just read what I've already said a few times. Anyway, your judgement is flawed because you are also trying to justify Mike Ashley

Possibly, aye. But if Llambias' casino pal can't exert a bit of influence, what chance has anyone? That said, I think he was desperate to get Ireland in when we practically all thought we were short of bodies up top, even before Carroll left. I can't really see another CM on loan being someone Ashley demanded.

yeah, I don't blame him for trotting out the party line, its his job, not everybody is like Keegan. There's a case for telling the truth and Pardew also has his understandable point of view, no rights or wrongs in this area IMO.

So long as he does a good job with what he's got, you can't ask for much more.

Any manager worth his salt does. Keegan/Hughton for example. Could you see Fergie or Wenger putting up with Ashley's shit. It says something that the managers who do put up with being the owner's mouthpiece were JFK and Pardew.

I think you're right in that he would've known what he was getting himself into, which is a worry. And if he didn't, it's still a worry.

I don't quite remember Hughton being very vocal against the regime?

Parsnip will end up walking imo.

nothing is so certain that he will walk out in frustration or be sacked for not putting a good team together for peanuts.

And there'll be clauses in his contract where it doesn't all need to be paid up if he is sacked.

CH was too dignified a person to operate on their level and speak out against the tossers . Still hasnt said a bad wotd either as far as I know . These lot are sitting there not believing what they can get away with I think . Clearly taking advantage of the better nature of folk up here . Possiby getting carried with the euphoria of Saturday and all that was great about it (i can see Carver having a big input at half time like) but don't lose sight of the fact he's even come out and said he's hoodwinked the fans from day one re Carroll !? For me, there's a point where you have to ask how far to punt a 'company line' in terms of keeping your own credibility/dignity even ! He's emphatically quoting DL from the off !?! Maybe the bloke's credibility and dignity has a price ? Shame on him and more a shame for us if so . Then comes the 'we'll spend in summer ive fallen back in love with football' stuff ¿ Honest man - taking advantage of our better nature .
