Best thing that could happen at the moment

we cant just sack the manager everytime we have some bad results, come on for gods sake have some faith.

We've lost 6 out of the first 9. The man didn't sign any defenders in the summer and he can't coach the ones we've got to anything above schoolyard level. His coaching team is a fucking mess and he spashed £10m on someone that I don't think he has a clue how to use to the best of his ability.

If we persevere with him we could end up in BIG trouble.

Very well said, though wasn't it you who thought Souness should have had two years, or something similar?

Roeder has no clue how to handle players. His previous track record is enough for us to gather he simply cannot manage, plus he stated he wasn't up the job himself, but he still got appointed. Roeder and Shepherd are both pathetic. It would be unfair to say Roeder needs a whole to clear up Souness' mess, as we've now reached the point where's it all Roeder's fault, and I'm now starting to remember at times, how well the team could play. He was still awful mind.

What's your point re Souness? Souness was actually a more accomplished manager than Roeder, and had a record of at least SOME success.

I just thought you said you would always give a manager a chance of at least two years. Apologies if this is wrong.

Not always, no. The issue with Souness was that people wanted him gone the minute he took the job on. Before we'd even played a game, he was a candidate for the sack. Then he started off ok and still people wanted him to get the sack. At that point I said that he deserved time (at least one full season I think was what I said). But with Roeder, he has no record of success anywhere, and a horrible record of taking clubs to the brink of relegation. Now, in the past I've said that it was unfair to say that about him, but I'm not really interested in testing whether it is or isn't unfair this season.

Hmmm, well, I think I can remember the two year quote Gemmill - howay man, we argued about it for 6 months! Anyway, that's in the past.

Both Souness and Roeder were gobsmackingly bad appointments for us. I'm really not sure if the club will survive in the premiership with two consecutive shit managers. Trouble is, Shepherd has burnt most his bridges regarding other managers, or watched them disappear to other clubs. Who's going to come here now? If Shearer turns us down, we're fucked. Even if he comes, we may be fairly fucked.

Hmmm. Curbishley?

I haven't denied anything. I've said that I said he deserved a full season, which meant more or less two years.

I wouldn't fancy Curbishley tbh. I think he'd end up being a long term appointment as he does know what he's doing, but all he'd do is establish us as mediocre.

That is true. Souness did a good job for a period of time at Blackburn, and had won the League Cup, which to be fair is more than what Roeder has done. I didn't jump on the bandwagon myself, but came to viewpoint he should be sacked not long into last season.

As I've already stated Roeder has no clue how to manage a club, so our chances of success with him are non-existent.

Blackburn were below us in the league when we appointed Souness. He only just avoided relegation the previous year. He was hated by Blackburn fans and they were pissing themselves when we paid off his contract and they got Hughes. Don't rewrite history - Souness was always a shit appointment and I didn't need the benefit of hindsight to work it out at the time.

On a similar note, I notice many people have slagged off O'Neill, some even preferring Roeder or (LeazesMag) comparing him to Souness. We could have got him last season, well let's see how Villa do this year compared to us. Fucking sick of the incompetence at this club.

Its not Roeder that needs to go.

Its that Fat Fucker Fat Freddy Fucking Sheperd Fat Fucking Fat Fat

whats happening to this football club? (again)

:o

Whilst I am not an admirer nor advocate of Fat Freddy I think some of the bitterness is mis-directed.

Sure, his tight-arsed purse-strings, lack of vision and enterprise in the close season are responsible in part for the situation we are in now but the week by week tinkering with the players available and team selections are not part of his agenda. It's up to Roeder, McDermott, and all the others responsible for getting it right on the pitch, and they're not doing it, not by a long shot.

Already too many games have been lost that should have been won and today was no exception.

He appointed Roeder you know.

I'd take mediochrity ahead of relegation. It's a real fear for me now, and while I like Roeder as a person (from what I can take from interviews etc.) I just think he lacks the tactical nous or coaching acumen to get the best from this group of players.

at the end of the day, despite Leazes howling to the contrary, once again this was a bad desicion made by the man at the top. Look at the managers who showed interest in Newcastle, where they are and where their teams are.

This is Shepherds latest mistake and I can't understand how he maintains a fan base at all...

Probably a voting system like real madrid would be the way, instead of voting for the president(chairman)we could vote for the manager, and we think waving scarves looks good, how about hankies for the next match?

I know that Mr. Renton, and I had serious misgivings about that from the get-go but my current concerns are about the week by week, game by game decisions being made on who plays and where.

There's that adage or cliche if you will, that you shouldn't change a winning team, so perhaps Roeder should have started the same team, same formation, that won agaist the Turks with the exception of Emre who got hurt and was replaced by Butt

It annoys me when he persists in playing 'Damage' at left fullback when he does have other options, and how unfit can Bernard be that he doesn't even make the bench after so much playing time with the reserves and 90 minutes in a closed-door match along with 'Dire'

The thing about the possibility that Shearer may not bring us the success a lot think he will, I look back at the time Keegan was appointed.

We as a club were down in the mire and the fans were too extemely down-beat. The appointment of Keegan lifted our spirits and expectations and with it, the fans renewed enthusiasm spurred the team onto succeed (that's always been my viewpoint on it anyway - yes he made some shrewd signings, but the crowd earned us that 3-0 win at home to Bristol City in the first match).

I believe we're in a similar situation now, we're incredibly downbeat and we need a pick-up to kick-start the team into action. The appointment of Shearer could well do that.

That said, a good proportion of our team is gash. The defence which has never been great for years is considerably worse these days! :o

I, like many, have always been doubtful of the appointment of Shearer into the top job as his first managerial appointment but if you look at the success the team had after he was appointed as Roeder's no.2 and then at how the team performed without him after he was injured against the village of the dammed, there has to be some worth to his contribution.

What is disappointing about our situation, regarding the fat man and his appointment of managers during his time, is I read the other day about how Hiddink's job with the Russian national team is Abramovich lead and basically he is there until Roman moves the special one on. So not only has Chelsea's chairman had the best manager in England for the last two seasons, he has already planned for the clubs future after things turn sour with Mourinho! Who says forward thinking isn't the way to run a football club?

Is that a trick question? I can think of someone. :icon_lol:

I can think of two! The fat man and his PR agency :o

Well I was thinking of a regular poster who is too busy to go on here much nowadays for some reason.....

At the moment success is such a far flung pipe dream I'd happily take mid table mediocrity for another season. We're dangling above the drop zone, worst start to a season since Gullitt.
