Renton 21126
It's metaphorical, as I've said. You'd probably be right if the meaning was right on the surface. But that is an example of "deep and meaningful" lyrics. You're joking, right?
Gemmill 44184
My favoutite metal lyrics: The bigger the cushion, the sweeter the pushin That's what I said. The looser the waistband, the deeper the quicksand Or so I have read. My baby fits me like a flesh tuxedo. I love to sink her with my pink torpedo. Big bottom Big bottom Talk about bum cakes, My gal's got 'em. Big bottom, Drive me out of my mind. How can I leave this behind? I saw her on monday, twas my lucky bun day You know what I mean. I love her each weekday, each velvety cheekday You know what I mean. My love gun's loaded and she's in my sights Big game's waiting there inside her tights Big bottom Big bottom Talk about mud flaps My gal's got 'em. Big bottom Drive me out of my mind. How can I leave this behind? At least that's funny though. Who wrote that anyway?
Guest Patrokles
Personally, I find POWER METAL lyrics preferable to these deep and meaningfuls. I mean, how can you listen to Manowar and take it seriously? You can't! That's why it's enjoyable: By moonlight we ride Ten thousands side by side With swords drawn held high Our whips and armours shine Hail to thee our infantry Still brave beyond the grave All have sworn the eternal vow The time to strike is now [Chorus:] Kill, kill, Oh ! Kill, kill, Oh ! Kill, kill, Oh ! Kill, kill, Oh ! Gone are the days when freedom shone Now blood and steel meet bone In the light of the battle's way The sands of time will shade How proud our soldiers stand With mace and chain in hand Sound the charge into glory ride Over the top of the vanguished pride [Chorus:] Victory, victory, Oh ! Victory, victory, Oh ! Victory, victory, Oh ! Victory, victory, Oh ! To the battle we ride We crossed a starlit sky No space no time We'll catch the wind Strange losses, men died We crossed a starlit sky And still no space or time We'll catch the wind [Chorus:] Kill, kill, Oh ! Kill, kill, Oh ! Kill, kill, Oh ! Kill, kill, Oh ! Sound of charge into glory ride Over the top of the anguished pride By moonlight we ride Ten thousand side by side [Chorus:] Kill, kill, Oh ! Kill, kill, Oh ! Kill, kill, Oh ! Kill, kill, Oh !
Happy Face 29
There seems to be some sort of misguided belief on here that I like Erasure. I take it you think that Metallica stuff is poetry btw, since you felt the need to defend it. Not really, as I said at the start, I find them hilarious. I just find it funny that someone who seems to be amusical wants to wade in and slag other peoples taste off.

TheInspiration 1
Not joking. Even if it is GCSE standard poetry, it can still be deep and meaningful, and besides some GCSE poetry is very famous and impressive, no? I'm sure you like bands where the song-writer isn't a poetic genius, but can still write good lyrics. Guest Patrokles
On the subject of Metal and lyrics, by the way, here's a song about a death metal band. The lyrics are pretty good. Edit: btw when Gemmill said GCSE standard, I assumed he meant written by someone doing their GCSE, not written by a poet on the syllabus. Happy Face 29
Show us some of them, please. Finished with my woman 'cause she couldn't help me with my mind People think I'm insane because I am frowning all the time All day long I think of things but nothing seems to satisfy, Think I'll lose my mind if I don't find something to pacify Can you help me occupy my brain? Oh yeah I need someone to show me the things in life that I can't find, I can't see the things that make true happiness, I must be blind Make a joke and I will sigh and you will laugh and I will cry Happiness I can not feel and love to me is so unreal And so as you hear these words telling you now of my state I tell you to enjoy life, I wish I could but (it's/I'm) too late

If you can't parse lyrics without thinking 'that's bloody terrible,' it's very, very difficult to take them seriously enough to appreciate their depth and meaning. eg. Here are some lyrics I just came up with. It is about my mother having three months to live (hypothetical): All I feel is pain because the cancer is taking you life is cancer taking us all fuck cancer fuck life fuck you all. TheInspiration 1
Fine then, just got some Sonata Arctica. Their lyrics are very well written I think anyway. Sometimes I feel so out of time and place, trapped in a maze As if I was lost in someone else's life... The values I should keep in high regard don't mean a thing to me Do you ever feel a need to go back in time? A dream of mine... To travel far away and one day steal back my life In the end all I can do is to learn I live in a dreamland This time was not made for me, I have nowhere to land, no place to rest, Like a bird, without a nest, I'm gliding Under the clouds, forevermore How much suffocated anxiety can be held within? I was found guilty to a crime against myself. No need to hear the words again, I live and I'd die for my dreamland This time was not made for me, I have nowhere to land, no place to rest, Like a bird, without a nest, I'm gliding Under the clouds, forevermore I'll never have a chance, I can't understand I'm a misplaced man How could this backward land Learn to understand my dance What it's like, when every single smile hurts... I have never felt like home here Always missing something People aren't connecting Am I a misplaced soul? I live in a perfect Hell, I try finding my wishing well when I drop my last tear, I have accepted this life A true saint, that I am not, you have never seen me 'Cause I have always been there, standing by your side I'll never have a chance, I can't understand I'm a misplaced man How could this backward land Learn to understand my dance what it's like, when Every single moment pains me... Never felt like home here I am missing something My soul's in a wrong shell
Monster 0
OK, I take it back. It's thrash metal I have the real problem with, as I like some of the bands from some of the other 'softer' sub-genres. All these bands are officially shit and anyone who likes them should be, or has been, labotomised I have albums by most of those bands and i don't think you have a clue what you're talking about at all. Anthrax are one of the best metal bands ever, with thought provoking ltrics and excellent melody. To call them 'thrash' is simplistic and frankly just wrong. BTW, the wife typed this for me after my labotomy
