Just heard about this earlier on, at work theres a shitload of people who have been saving all year through this and are now buggered.

Luckily I work on the "fuck it I'll blow what I can on Christmas eve principle"

and it was the nicest bottle of Windscreen Wash anyone has ever bought me

Just heard about this on the news today, awful that like. As said by some, divvint go and get yourself into loads of debt by trying to fork out the same amount. That alot of cash for anyone to loose. You'd be better off explaining (if you feel you have to) and getting people something small (or nothing). Im sure they'd rather you done that than jumped onto the slippery downward slope of high interest borrowing.

If you want my opinion, tell people what happened and buy them something small. Getting into financial difficulty or selling stuff for Xmas presents is just daft in my opinion. I'm sure people will understand your predicament and I would hate one of my friends or relatives to buy my presents they couldn't afford.

Agreed. Sorry to hear your bad news Gina

Why not buy a few boxes of Marks and Spencers 'nice' biscuits, ( on offer at present) split the boxes up, wrap the biccies into individual parcels and tie up with ribbon for small gifts. Its the thought that counts after all.

It is the thought that counts, but if anyone gives me a biscuit for Christmas, there'll be trouble.

You could save money and use McVitie's digestives too!

Seriously though, although you obviously take Christmas seriously judging by the amount you had save, I agree with others that you should just tell your friends and family what happened. Any reasonable person would understand and not want you to get into debt or get stressed out by it.

 Individually wrapped biscuits? Sorry I thought she had a bit of misfortune, I missed the bit where she said she'd been trapped in a Dickens novel.

No, not even a ginger one. :D I'll go through three tins of the cadburys biscuit selections over the festive period though. <_<

I watched more about this whole thing on the news this morning and it's awful. Old grannies losing £6k and stuff. Pretty shocking.

 Aye, I was imagining Bob Cratchit looking through the window at Tiny Tim tucking into his chocolate Bourbon.

i didnt mean one biscuit per present!! they are large boxes and you could half them to make them go around further and creatively wrap them prettily!!!

Turkish Delight is minging! It tastes of flowers. :D

Although if there's chocolate on it, I'll still put it away.

im glad you dont like Turkish D....it pisses me off when someone chooses that one from the box, why cant they just go for the flake cake one? ( im very protective over chocolate) ;)

I'll pretty much eat anything chocolatey, as long as its not white or cooking chocolate. My friend and i went away the weekend just gone to the Cotswolds, we were nearly an hour in ONE fudge shop in Stratford, just too much to sample and choose from!!

How do you know what flowers taste like? I assume somebody stole your wallet one Christmas and you had to survive on flowers and ditchwater for a year.
