Gemmill 44173
One thing I always wondered is - the pause live TV function; when you resume is it playing from a stream back from the HDD or does it go back to live pictures? Just always thought it would be great to pause it for 10mins or so then start watching. That way you could fast forward though the adverts. Or is that just a load of rubbish? No, that's exactly how it works. I'll quite often pause something as it's starting, go and do something and come back with it 12 minutes or so behind and start watching. Then like you say when you get to the ads you just fast forward through them. You just keep doing that every ad break until you eventually catch up. When you're watching live TV I think it always records something like the last half hour of the channel you're watching too, and sort of keeps a rolling float of 30 minutes worth even if you aren't recording. So say if you're watching something and the phone rings and you forget to pause it, when you get off the phone you can just rewind up to half an hour and start from where you left off. nufc4ever 0
Nicely! Cheers folks. I take it you are informed of how far behind live TV you are then? Edited October 17, 2006 by nufc4ever
MrBass 2637
What I don't understand is where you find the time to watch that much telly though. Once mine gets over half full (10 hours) I pretty much know I'm going to be deleting at least 5 hours off there because I'll never get round to watching it. How can you watch 120 hours worth of stuff?! Do you have a lot of stuff on there that you plan to keep forever or something? Well I have got an awful lot of shite on there! Like the entire Ghost Whisperer series (well however far they've got), about the last 15 episodes of Lost, Greys Anatomy last few episodes of Series 1 plus all the televised Series 2 stuff up till now, um... One Tree Hill latest series along with a bunch of films, 2005 MTV Movie Awards, 75th (or whatever) Annual Academy Awards etc... etc... I'm sure I'll watch them all eventually! Precisely, you can set-up how much you want to buffer in your Sky+ settings, 0, 30 or 60mins.
Renton 21117
Anyone know if I can get something similar for Telewest cable? Sounds GREAT tbf. Also, can a media PC do this kind of thing?

Gemmill 44173
http://www.telewest.co.uk/html/tvdrive/when.html How much does TVDrive cost? There is no up-front equipment fee for TVDrive. £10 a month if you subscribe to Supreme TV or £15 a month if you subscribe to either our Starter or Essential TV. Free installation for new Telewest digital TV customers. If you are an existing digital TV customer you will get free installation of TVDrive when you keep your existing set top box in another room for an additional £5 a month. If you're an existing digital TV customer to swap out your existing standard box for TVDrive a £75 installation fee will apply. Gemmill 44173
Re the free installation for new customers only, I'm pretty sure if you rang them and told them that they either give you it free or you switch to Sky +, you'd be getting it installed for nowt. Cheers for the info Gemmill, might be a christmas present, then I can dump my VCR in the spare room, sorted. I fancy getting one of these multimedia computers one day to do all the TV, web, e-mail, music etc, but I'll wait until it gets a bit simpler to use I think. Gemmill 44173
I would quite fancy the idea, but I can't get past the idea of all the wires and having to have a computer in the living room - is that what it would mean? Or am I being clueless? All my music comes off the computer or my ipod these days, and I like to use the computer for the web and email. Dunno how TV through a computer works though. Looks like a whole lot of unnecessary hassle tbh.

Mind, he's an IT network engineer, so it's easy for him to set it up.
Gemmill 44173
I've got Airport set up on my Mac so I can play music wirelessly, and print wirelessly from a different room and that but I never print anything at home anyway. Waste of time I tells thee.

Waste of time I tells thee. My printer's wireless too. Whenever I do print something (e.g. bank statement, airline or hotel reservation usually), I go upstairs to get it only to find the printer is off and I have to resend it. So yeah, it's pretty pointless.

Gemmill 44173
I imagine that sends you into a WILD RAGE. I can imagine your lass sat downstairs just rolling her eyes when she hears a crash and a "FOR FUCKS SAKE!" from upstairs. Fucking Basil Fawlty. I've had it about 6 weeks now, spot on and you can record two things at once. As you say though Gemmil I've got loads of stuff recorded that i probably won't get around to watching unless wor lass and the bairns go on a weeks holiday. Saying that I"m off work so I might watch a film or two today considering the weather
