Sickies

I have officially taken 2 days off in 5 years, having a cold is no excuse for a holiday.

WHAAAAAAT??

The correct rule of thumb to apply is as follows: if you aren't feeling great, and you feel bad enough that you would reconsider (not cancel necessarily, but reconsider) doing something socially (outside of work), then you're ill enough to not go to work.

I've got a minging hangover and the only thing I should be doing now is lying on my sofa with a wet flannel on my head. Does that count?

You should never have come in. Go home at once.

Incidentally I work for a Dutch company. Over in Holland if you work for the same company they get 10 weeks holiday a year. Now no one is going to try and tell me that I'm not entitled to more than my 25 days simply because of the small matter of geography!? Surely??

Yeah, but if you lived in the US you would get 2 weeks! Content yourself that you're getting the mean average I reckon.

No work = no pay

Sickie not an option, unless I'm REALLY REALLY sick :good:

They had that rule at some of the accountancy firms in America - KPMG for example. No sick entitlement at all, so you had to use your holidays if you were ill!? Thankfully PwC weren't that stupid.

From what my pals over the pond say, they get a vacation allowance and so many sick days on top, which thay can use anytime. If however they go over the sick days allowance then it's no pay.

At least I can work from home, like today <_<:) (I'm not sick BTW just working from home)

When I went over there I got 20 days a year because I'd transferred from the UK firm so they didn't take your UK allowance off you. It used to wind the yanks up something chronic with their pathetic 10 day allowance. :woosh:

Run of the mill?? I'll have you know I'm an extremely important cog in the business world machinery!

Only a Frenchman could write a book like that and get away with it though. I'm surprised he could even be arsed to write it.

I didnt mean you had a run of the mill job but with your attitude thats about all you deserve 'King of Shirks'.

This lazy arsed frenchman has had to hide his identity and needs to be proper careful now as apparently the social services are (quite rightly) pissed off and are on the war path. Serve the stupid retard right. Not exacly a hardship getting 40 days hoilday a year and doing 35 hour weeks.

Mind, I read that the French work the least hours but are amongst the most productive in the world, so they're doing something right.

Correct although i'm sure they fiddle the figures as they know they have a bad reputation as lazy buggers.

I don't throw sickies if I feel a bit sniffly, because a) no one else will do my work for me and b ) I fucking hate it when other people do and drop me in the shit.

Mind you I'm not one of these idiots who'll come in when dying of flu and spread it round the entire office.

It's worst when they blow their nose or do something snot-related and then let out a barely audible "uhhhh" sigh. Just to let everyone know how ill they are.

No sympathy from me DICKHEAD! You shouldn't have come in.

Best to smash them over the back of the head with a chair or something to give them a real reason not to come in. Or push them down the stairs. Or push a filing cabinet on them. Or, well you get the idea.

You'd hate me then. If I'm going to be ill then I'm damned sure EVERYONE is going to know about it, and preferably catch it so they can suffer too.

Well in my last job i was at for 6 years i didnt get paid when i was off so i tended to only stay off if really neccessary. Now i do get paid though, but i dont have the guts to drop them in the shit and leave them short staffed when most others take 2 or 3 sick days a month!!!!

I get 29days holiday though which is as good as 7 weeks off cos we only do a 4day week!

Thread about this the other day on NO so I'm nicking it. What's your philosophy? A big no-no? A welcome extension to your annual holiday allowance?

Are you one of those people that comes into work even when you feel like you're on death's door? Or do you take a day off at the slightest sign of the sniffles?

I've bolded my philosophy on the matter. I think they're great.

I'm in total agreement with your philosophy.

I don't have a real job but even when I have manflu I go in. Working with food, this probably isn't a good idea but as a student having a bit of money is more important than silly customers being okay.

During the whole of high school I think I had about a week off and most of those days were because I was on holiday with my family. I regularly take days off uni, though, mainly because I'm tired or hungover.

I'm disappointed in you David. People who go into work when they're sick are the OPPOSITE of nails. They are weak because they're scared of their boss.

DO NOT BE WEAK!

SLP Dave, not the other one.

Believe it or not, sometimes I'm actually busy in this job (the last month is a prime example) so being off is more of a pain in the arse because you come back to a pile of shit and stuff that needs doing yesterday.

'You're the best.....for now! And nothins gonna ever bring you down!'
