Gemmill 44153
Thread about this the other day on NO so I'm nicking it. What's your philosophy? A big no-no? A welcome extension to your annual holiday allowance? Are you one of those people that comes into work even when you feel like you're on death's door? Or do you take a day off at the slightest sign of the sniffles? I've bolded my philosophy on the matter. I think they're great.
Meenzer 15350
Less of an issue working from home, where you can sit at the PC in your dressing gown with a mug of Lemsip and still get a bit of graft done, but they were a sanity-saver when I was over in Mainz. Happy Face 29
If you hate your job so much that you feel the need to deceive your superiors then you should find alternative means of employ. You people cost the economy billions (probably).
catmag 336
Difficult to throw sickies when you work in a guilt-ridden environment like I do. That's not to say I've not done it on occasions, but it's not easy.
Renton 21103
I have officially taken 2 days off in 5 years, having a cold is no excuse for a holiday. Mind, I have the benefit of working from home which helps enormously.

Gemmill 44153
I have officially taken 2 days off in 5 years, having a cold is no excuse for a holiday. WHAAAAAAT?? The correct rule of thumb to apply is as follows: if you aren't feeling great, and you feel bad enough that you would reconsider (not cancel necessarily, but reconsider) doing something socially (outside of work), then you're ill enough to not go to work. Unless you're up against a really tight deadline for which the option to not meet it isn't available. If I'm in that situation I'll work. Luckily I very very rarely get even a cold, so it's not often an issue. I just take the free ones.

You people cost the economy billions (probably). Your such a 'company man' HP, do you not get lulls in motivation and workload? I was keen as mustard for the first 5-7 years of working and now am knackered all the time, so i find little ways when am not busy to have a little skive. Some french bloke has just released a book about avoiding work entirely basically scamming the system in France which is very generous. Anyway the reason why i mention it is becausee the bloke reviewing the book made a very insightful comment. This lazy french twat hadnt realised that the best way to do nowt is to get a run of the mill office job where no one knows what you do. This is the best modern way to do fuck all. Sure gemmill knows what this bloke was driving at.

Gemmill 44153
Run of the mill?? I'll have you know I'm an extremely important cog in the business world machinery! Only a Frenchman could write a book like that and get away with it though. I'm surprised he could even be arsed to write it.
David Kelly 1217
I usually extend my sick days beyond when I am actually sick (in other words if I'm legitimiately off sick I usually take an extra day at the end when I'm really well enough to go in). That said I only do this if I've not got lots on at work and there have plenty of occasions when I have been ill enough to be off on the sick but still gone in becuase I was snowed under. Gemmill 44153
Just remembered another rule: if you're ill over the weekend, but well by Monday morning, it's only right that you should get Monday off to compensate for your weekend being ruined. Gemmill 44153
No work = no pay Sickie not an option, unless I'm REALLY REALLY sick They had that rule at some of the accountancy firms in America - KPMG for example. No sick entitlement at all, so you had to use your holidays if you were ill!? Thankfully PwC weren't that stupid.

This lazy arsed frenchman has had to hide his identity and needs to be proper careful now as apparently the social services are (quite rightly) pissed off and are on the war path. From what my pals over the pond say, they get a vacation allowance and so many sick days on top, which thay can use anytime. If however they go over the sick days allowance then it's no pay. At least I can work from home, like today (I'm not sick BTW just working from home)

Incidentally I work for a Dutch company. Over in Holland if you work for the same company they get 10 weeks holiday a year. Now no one is going to try and tell me that I'm not entitled to more than my 25 days simply because of the small matter of geography!? Surely??
