Toonraider 0
Does the thought of your own death scare you? Do you believe in an after-life? Sorry to be morbid, but the headstone thread started me off Oh and the news that a guy down the road from me has just been found guilty of murdering his wife back in 2001, dismembering her body and burying the various parts, including her head, under their patio I probably think of death more than is normal or healthy, its a horrible thought, i dont want to die, i cant imagine not being here. I wish i could believe in some sort of after-life to comfort me, but im not really convinced. Edited October 8, 2006 by Toonraider

Guest Patrokles
I think everyone thinks about their own death at some point, for sure. Me? I'm not entirely sure I'd mind on a personal level, though there are a couple of things I'd maybe like to achieve first. Having said that, when you step back and think about it, nothing you achieve will actually matter to you personally after you've died- so, you know. It's all cool. EDIT: I do feel that maybe religious beliefs would alter one's perception of death, too. Or a belief in an afterlife. Jimbo 172
I have no fear of death, its just that last little bit of life before death that gives me the most concern.

I'm not entirely sure about that. I think it'd be a lot easier to die if there weren't people who would be hurt by it. At the same time, we all indulge in a bit of self-mythologising. sweetleftpeg 0
I was talking to my mate about this last night (yes, we were pissed) as his cousin went from being a healthy 40 yar old to dieing of cancer within 3 months. I'd like to end to be as quick as possible tbh, put me in the 'I don't think there's anything else after death but the thought that there is makes me feel better' camp. Personally il believe ive lead a good life, however im not perfect so i wont go to heaven but i also wont go to hell, maybe somewhere in the middle, pergatory? Basically itl go like this,'listen man i havent been that bad and to be honest you made me a newcastle fan and i have to put up with fat fred and a football circus, time for a break maybe?'' Do you really believe that? yeah I do, do you think its strange ? In a way yeah, I find it really strange, the whole concept that we are going to a life after death where we can socialise with old friends and family. Don't get me wrong, I know it is a common belief, but when I actually think about it it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Out of intererest, you say you've not been bad, but that depends on your definition of bad, and it's not your call. According to some religions, it'll be fire and brimstone for eternity for you. You say you don't fear death, but if you believe in Heaven, you must surely believe in the possibility of Hell. Personally, I don't find the concept of death that frightening, as I reckon the worst case (and most likely) scenario is it's oblivion, which you are not going to be aware of. As I'm an atheist I obviously reject all the Pearly gates stuff, but they do say the thing an atheist fears most is not the fact there is no life after death, but more the possibility there is. I agree with this, as I find the idea of living for eternity in either the traditional heaven or hell absolutely terrifying.
