Guest Patrokles
something Patrokles, you heard of Larrikin Love? Any good? They're a little bit like the Libertines mixed with those irish drinking bands, which isn't really my thing, but if you like that then it's all good. They're definitely good at what they do, and I would imagine they're a very good band to see live too. I checked and they're playing Newcastle early december, so I'd think it'd be a nice gig to go to. Edited October 13, 2006 by Patrokles
Happy Face 29
Heard some of the stuff off the new Wolf Parade album for the first time today. Wants to move its arse and get leaked.

Park Life 71
Spencer Krug has a very distinctive voice. He started in a band called Wolf Parade, went on to record an album with some other people under the moniker of Sunset Rubdown, and recently has been part of a supergroup with Dan Bejar of Destroyer/New Pornographers fame, and also the guy from Frog Eyes. Unfortunately the latter album is shite, but does include an excellent song with Krug on vocals. I confess that when I first heard Sunset Rubdown (my introduction to Krug), I wasn't overly convinced. They Took a Vote & Said No was a song I liked immediately, but the rest were a bit harder to like. However, The Men Are Called Horsemen There grew on me over time and is now one of my favourite songs. The sheer scope of it is very impressive, and all credit to any song that tops 7 minutes and never gets boring. The dynamics are great, especially the middle section that begins 'If I were a horse...' and finishes with '... but I am no horse, and you are no angel!' Wolf Parade I subsequently and more recently got into, but the WP works are probably Krug's most consistently rewarding body of work, esp. Dear Sons & Daughters of Hungry Ghosts, Grounds for Divorce, & This Heart's on Fire. Of the Swan Lake (supergroup) stuff, as mentioned before, the only really worthwhile one (one of the few he actually sings anyway) is very good and is called All Fires. There's a very good bit about the flooding of a town, which runs: one thousand people did what they could they found a steeple and tore up the wood five hundred pieces means five hundred float one thousand people means five hundred don't Here are links to the songs mentioned. Obviously, because his voice is pretty distinctive, and all of his projects are clearly HIM, it's very rewarding if you like it, but less so if you don't: They Took a Vote & Said No All Fires The Men Are Called Horsemen There Dear Sons & Daughters of Holy Ghosts This Heart's On Fire Modern World Grounds For Divorce (ep version- not as good as the album version, but the album one isn't around) I'm liking Modern world and All fires. Happy Face 29
How you people remember threads from a year and a half ago is beyond me. I hear a Wolf Parade track, and search for "Wolf Parade", it's canny basic.
Guest Patrokles
Can the mods make Patrokles his own music forum? Already has one at Bensmusic.co.uk doesn't he? Anyone signed up? Yes. It doesn't exist any more, unfortunately. It went with the site redesign. I need to update it again, actually, but I'd need to make some more songs first. The latest Sunset Rubdown was very good, btw.
