From Australian broadcaster ABC:

FFA considers disciplinary action against Moore

Football Federation Australia (FFA) is considering disciplinary action against Socceroo defender Craig Moore.

FFA says Moore failed to arrive at the team assembly in Brisbane in time for training and other commitments today, which it says it is a breach of the National Team Players Agreement and Code of Conduct.

It says it is undertaking a process with the player to work out how this happened before deciding on any action to be taken.

Neither FFA nor Moore are making any comment on the matter.

Prefer him to stay on Tyneside then play in Brisbane and Sydney against some probably average sides. We need him fit, imagine if he got injured....

You're just pissed off because they're not playing out in the West  Whereas I'm delighted I get to see a full strength Australian team in Brisbane

Besides, marking Roque Santa Cruz isn't exactly a light jog in the park...

A day at the races and night at the casino means there'll likely be less of Moore

October 5, 2006

CRAIG Moore would have skippered the Socceroos in his hometown for the first time against Paraguay in Brisbane on Saturday night - but instead the veteran defender is almost certain to be suspended by Football Federation Australia after failing to arrive in camp with the rest of the squad yesterday.

The FFA is set to impose a one-match ban on Moore under its code of conduct policy after the Newcastle United stopper failed to board a flight from Sydney to Brisbane, missing a lunchtime promotional appearance and an afternoon training session. It is believed Moore spent Tuesday night at Star City casino after an afternoon at Kembla Grange races, where the horse [Humma] he part owns with fellow Socceroos Zeljko Kalac and Scott Chipperfield ran a strong second placing.

Contacted by the Herald last night, Moore would not comment other than to say: "I will be put- ting out a statement tomorrow."

It is believed Moore has told the FFA alcohol was not a factor in his failure to board his scheduled flight - rather it was a combination of jet lag [he flew in from England early on Tuesday morning] and a sleeping tablet he took early yesterday morning.

Nonetheless, both interim Socceroos coach Graham Arnold - a long-time advocate of Moore - and the FFA are known to be unimpressed with the excuse, and disciplinary action is almost certain. The captaincy for Saturday night's match is now likely to go to fellow defender Lucas Neill. Late last night it is believed the FFA called in Newcastle Jets defender Jade North to take Moore's place in the squad for the weekend.

The FFA also said it would investigate the matter with Moore to explain how the breach occurred before deciding whether action would be taken.

A chastened Moore is due to fly to Brisbane this morning but will almost certainly have to wait until next Wednesday's Asian Cup qualifier against Bahrain in Sydney to strap on his boots - that is if he doesn't decide to retire in the meantime.

Moore has spoken openly over the past year about his desire to end his international career after the World Cup but has been persuaded to stay on until next year's Asian Cup finals. Whether this episode forces a change of heart remains to be seen.

- Despite setting the SerieA alight with new club Palermo, Marco Bresciano admits he will be under pressure to regain his starting spot at the Sicilian outfit when he returns from Socceroos duty next week, AAP reports.

But it's a price the gun midfielder is willing to pay.

"I think it puts pressure on not just my place but all of the boys," the 26-year-old said. "We get back [in Europe] on Friday next week and most of us play Saturday or Sunday, so I think for that game it's going to be pretty hard to get back in the team.

"It's the price we pay but I think you'll see us always come back, so I think we're happy with it."

I think he's actually done it for the toon!

By the way Shearer was at the very same Casino on Monday night.

Coincidence? I think not

Moore gone after Socceroos no-show

October 5, 2006 - 1:20PM

Socceroos defender Craig Moore is returning to England this afternoon following his failure to arrive in Socceroos camp with the rest of the squad yesterday.

Craig Moore, who plays for Newcastle United in the English Premier League, is leaving on a flight shortly to return to England after being told he would be suspended for Saturday's game against Paraguay.

Moore had the option of remaining to play in next week's Asian cup qualifier against Bahrain, but in a statement said: "In the circumstances, and in the besty intertests of the team, I have asked to be released from the squad and will return to Newcastle to prepare for our game against Bolton next weekend."

It is believed Moore spent Tuesday night at Star City casino after an afternoon at Kembla Grange races, where the horse [Humma] he part owns with fellow Socceroos Zeljko Kalac and Scott Chipperfield ran a strong second placing.

Moore was to have skippered the Socceroos in his hometown for the first time against Paraguay in Brisbane on Saturday night.

The captaincy for Saturday night's match is now likely to go to fellow defender Lucas Neill.

Newcastle Jets defender, Jade North, has been added to the squad for the Paraguay match.

Good for us.

Aye, good for the Toon, but I'm shattered I won't be able to give him a farewell from the Socceroos

Talk about cutting your nose off to spite your face - replacing Craig Moore with Jade fucking North?!? Not happy Jan!
