My brother has been having a litle bit of trouble with his computer lately, despite having Norton and trying every spyware destroyer in the book. Basically, the following is happening;

 

- his broadband works fine until he goes onto google to search.

 

- once on google, the term he types in takes ages to search and the computer freezes for about a minute.

 

- After this, two things happen;

 

1) If he clicks on a google search link, it goes to a random corporate search site we've never heard of. Goes back and clicks the link again and he goes through to the real link.

 

2) If he's on a website and he clinks an external link, it'll go to google where it's done a search for the relevant link. I.e. he clicked on a link for a hotel in Prague and the link went straight to a google search on 'hotels in prague.' Tried copying and pasting the link in his address bar and it does the same thing everytime. It doesn't do this for every link, just certain subjects.

 

Basically, I think he's got something on his machine that's fucking with google. Tried Norton, Spydoctor, Adaware, Spybot to name just a few. Anyone got a clue how to get rid of the bastid?

Erm...do you know the kind of things I should be looking to delete on the Hijackthis log?

 

Another thing, he now can't log into Internet based e-mails or message boards etc..
