LeazesMag 0
why's it called spam? easier to say than "corned beef mail" ?
adios 717
why's it called spam? It's actually a misnomer, it's unsolicited commercial email (UCE), but that doesn't have much of a ring to it. I think spamming was originally something that involved pretending your email was from a different source address than it really was, which a lot of spammers do/did. But now even search engine results are considered "spammy" if there's a lot of commercial junk there.
Lazarus 0
i still use my hotmail address that ive had for years. at the moment i get around 5 or 6 spam emails per day though this does increase and decrease.
Happy Face 29
probably inspired by a comedy routine on the British television series Monty Python's Flying Circus, in which the word is repeated incessantly Jesus. The nerds as depicted on the simpsons are spot on like.

Meenzer 15829
Best part of 100 a day across my various accounts, I imagine. The filter on my main account ain't half bad though, catches almost everything and rarely fingers anything by accident.

adios 717
I basically don't get any to my personal account, a little to my second account, and a shed load to my gmail account. I'm very selective who I give my information to, and I can get the silly cunts who sell on my second account in a lot of trouble, as I usually know who's done it. PS If you've got your email address anywhere in text format on the internet, that's te single biggest problem.
peasepud 59
As I havent checked the emails for 3 days Ive just been into Outlook and have a grand total of 788 emails waiting of which Id say 99% are spam. One problem for me is the use of catch-all email addresses. I administer 21 different websites each with their own range of email addresses however in every URL Ive set up catch-alls which means anything@thewebsite will come through to the main account. Time to kill them catch-alls off I think.

Thats what I'm thinking of doing, although I don't get much I never used to get any, except I'm not sure how much of a pain it will be or even if its possible without changing isp's. Mailwasher helps to sift through them - and bounce them back, because I get a lot of mail - if you don;'t use it, try it. These are all business email addresses and need to be freely available on the web. It doesnt take them long to get them though, I had a site go live last Wednesday and by Friday I had half a dozen spams.

I am getting returned mails from mailer-daemon, and other similar things, all with different prefixes but with the root of the e-mail address, and I am bouncing them back using mailwasher. Will this stop, get worse, or are they just no danger ? I have a feeling it has started since my daughter sent the address to her mate to chat on msn or something, - although she didn't go on it - but may be totally wrong.... Catch alls are something thats used in the email setup of domains so (unless you have domains) they're not a problem for you. Basically for the peasepud.com account I have a handful of email accounts such as peter@peasepud.com, ads@peasepud.com etc I then have a catch all set up so if someone misspells say pete@peasepud.com then I'd still get it. Trouble is all these spam things create random prefixes so I was getting 20 or so emails per day per domain (20+ domains!). Now I've cancelled the catch alls its dropped dramatically. As for your problem can you elaborate? are you getting the likes of abc@hotmail.com, dfsdsd@hotmail.com etc etc? Oh and I dont think its because of your daughter giving the address to her mate for MSN. Somewhere you may have registered with a site which isnt averse to passing on the email addresses. Matt 0
I've had a yahoo mail account for ages now, probably 6 or 7 years. Having not logged on for a week, I had 248 emails, all bar 7 were spam.

I have heard of a white list but am reluctant to set it up in case I get an email from someone unexpected eg business, work related, friends reunited etc...although I realise I could change these addresses. Changing your isp is obviously the real alternative but that is a real pain ..... Alternatively I am wondering if you can block out anything that isn't correctly addressed to me ie the whole address ?
