Gemmill 44109
Roeder hopes to banish hard times with new software Louise Taylor Thursday September 28, 2006 The Guardian "Another big story breaks at Newcastle United; tell us about the Kevin Bond situation," urged a rather dramatically inclined television reporter at the start of Glenn Roeder's Uefa Cup press conference yesterday. The enquiry related to Roeder's former assistant who was sacked on Tuesday in the wake of his inclusion in Panorama's investigation into football's bung culture. While Newcastle's manager neatly sidestepped the question, he could have done without an off-field scandal once again shrouding the club, and particularly at a time when his squad is debilitated by injuries. "Like anyone else's, this job is sometimes more difficult than at other times," admitted Roeder in a rare reference to the events of the past few days. "I think we'll get through tomorrow and, if so, we'll have had a fair start to the season," insisted a man who knows that overcoming Levadia Tallinn - who Newcastle beat 1-0 in the first leg - would not only guarantee a place in the competition's lucrative group stage but deflect attention from mixed Premiership form. Roeder is also hoping his club will receive a boost from a computerised system that analyses footballers' on-field performance, known as Amisco. Roeder has recently persuaded Freddy Shepherd, the club's chairman, to fund its installation. A rival to the better-known ProZone, Amisco is already deployed by, among others, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham, and Roeder cannot wait to get the system up and running. "Arsène Wenger and Rafa Benítez swear by Amisco," he enthused. "They use it to make very important decisions on players; there's no hiding place with it." While Amisco is yet to be installed at Newcastle, any errors or aberrations from Titus Bramble and company are unlikely to escape the watchful eyes of coaches Terry McDermott and Lee Clark, who will be alongside Roeder in the dug-out. Good news IMO. Unfortunately, with Terry Mac and Lee Clark at the controls, I can't help but feel it's a bit like letting a baby drive a speedboat. Gemmill 44109
Thing is though, it's one thing having concrete proof that say, Emre is misplacing too many passes in a game. It's another to be able to coach him to stop doing it. That's where this may all fall down. "We've identified all the areas where we're going wrong, but I'm afraid neither me, Lee nor Terry have the first fucking clue what to do about them. Where's Tommy Craig?" Papa Lazaru 0
Yeah its good to hear they have this available and are using it, like many other top managers do, the worry is what our coaches will do in response to it!!!
Kid Dynamite 6964
We dont really need a computer programme to tell us that martins luque is slow and cant score, bramble is actually an american football player etc. Ive got visions in my head of mcDermott, Clarke and Roeder all stood around the computer pressing buttons after the match, not having a clue how the things actually works
sweetleftpeg 0
Apparently they gave it a test run this morning. Glenn typed in 'Luque' and the fucker blew up.

Exactly, what's the point in having all this analysis if you don't have the coaches to improve the players.
Gemmill 44109
Maybe one of the players has been refusing to accept that he's misplacing passes or something, so Glenn's got the software so he can sit them down and go "Oh my god, you are SO busted, girlfriend!" Jimbo 172
Its comforting to know the club is embracing new technology, however Stevie Wonder could pin point our failings at the moment, rather than a state of the art computer. And while I'm at it, I wouldn't trust Roeder and Terry Mac to program my SKY+ yet alone have a go with that thing !

To be fair, Emre does 70% of the team's passing, so it's only natural he'll misplace some.

It was just an example, although as it happens, he does misplace too many passes.
