Shock horror, MattM4 in Shola bashing thread... :good:

you cant deny the fact that he scored sure, but his inability to do much out there is so overwhealming, it grinds me down. Wont bother watching next time he starts.

You can't deny that your constant Shola bashing (regardless of the fact he's injured or how well he plays) is getting rather tedious.

Agreed. Only on the pitch 20 minutes, scores, gets grief.

possibly... Id just like to point out this article:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/e...rem/5376242.stm

Roeder researched Ameobi strike

Roeder was happy with Ameobi's strike against Everton

Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder said Shola Ameobi's offside goal in the 1-1 draw with Everton was the result of researching the opposition's tactics.

"We obviously prepare and watch the opposition and I noticed that on a few games recently Everton came screaming out on wide free-kicks," he said.

"We talked about it as we went out but it didn't happen as we planned because you will tell me he was a yard offside.

Which means that they worked on this probably several times in training. Most of our players knew Everton were going to do it, hence the number one objective was to make sure that you stayed onside at all costs (even moreso than usual!)... Okay the goal counted in the end, but Shola still managed to be almost two yards off :good:

I did read that, but seeing as another two of our players were offside it doesn't look like we practiced it much.

Martins and the other bloke timed it to perfection, only one of our players was offside the whole time.

While we're on the subject of our strikers, what is the point in Martins' pace when he uses it so ineffectively. His movement off the ball is nonexistent, then you give him the ball and he's reluctant to run at pace with it and commit defenders!? The only time his pace is in evidence is when he's chasing the ball or trying to recover possession from his own poor touch.

Have to agree with you Mr. Gemmill, frankly I thought Martins performence was woeful considering how much he was touted, how much he cost, and how many chances he had to put at least one away and win the match.

Martins had the perfect opportunity to use his pace when Milner played him in, and he was one-on-one with the defender, but instead he tried an outside-of-the-foot shot which was easily blocked.

The Sun gave him 3/10, which I thought was a bit harsh.

Sibierski is definitely a trier, and one of those players that you would be hard pushed to dislike, but he's not all that good. I love the way he jumps like Superman in the box for impossibly high balls that he has no hope of heading, just to show the fans he's willing.
