Orbital - 'Belfast' always gets me.

The day my Mam died I just listened to music for the rest of the day and that was the first thing on the stereo. As with a couple of other tracks I listened to that day, it's stuck in my memory.

Another one that gets me, ever since Pedro made that video, is Evanescence - My Immortal

The Downtown Lights by the Blue Nile, BUT unfortunately that's been forever tainted for me because it was the background to two people I knew TOTALLY MACKING IT in front of me, although I did make sure to turn my back.

This song, Sunday afternoons in Invertions, the Play House and The Inn On The Park Baack road, happy days...

My love was like a religion,

but you caught me off guard.

Playing round with my deciples

your betrail hit me hard.

Now im most alone

your nails are digging into my skin,

but you dont see the scars they leave

because im cut up within.

I wear this painted smile.

My friends 'll say its not my style,

but they dont know the things I heard

though the grape vine.

Wont someone rescue me

just remind me how it used to be.

Do you think you could help me?

and maybe tear my heart out.

Strangled on the inside

trying not to show it on the outside

but pretty soon I know the scars

will start showing though.

Dont say that they're showing though.

and I never fail to cry when I here this

Tell me it's not true,

Say it's just a story,

Something on the news.

Tell me it's not true,

Though it's here before me,

Say it's just a dream,

Say it's just a scene,

From an old movie of years ago,

From an old movie of Marilyn Monroe,

Say it's just some clowns,

Two players in the limelight,

And bring the curtain down.

Say it's just two clowns,

Who couldn't get their lines right,

Say it's just a show on the radio,

That we can turn over and start again,

That we can turn over; it's just a game.

MRS. JOHNSTONE AND COMPANY

Tell me it's not true,

Say I only dreamed it,

And morning will come soon.

Say you didn't mean it,

Tell me it's not true,

Say it's just pretend,

Say it's just the end,

Of an old movie from years ago,

From an old movie of Marilyn Monroe.

Tell me it's not true,

Say I only dreamed it,

And morning will come soon.

Tell me it's not true

Say you didn't mean it.

Say it's just pretend

Say it's just the end

Of an old movie from long ago

From an old movie with Marilyn Monroe.

Old song but then again I'm an old man

She came from providence,

The one in rhode island

Where the old world shadows hang

Heavy in the air

She packed her hopes and dreams

Like a refugee

Just as her father came across the sea

She heard about a place people were smilin'

They spoke about the red man's way,

And how they loved the land

And they came from everywhere

To the great divide

Seeking a place to stand

Or a place to hide

Down in the crowded bars,

Out for a good time,

Can't wait to tell you all,

What it's like up there

And they called it paradise

I don't know why

Somebody laid the mountains low

While the town got high

Then the chilly winds blew down

Across the desert

Through the canyons of the coast, to

The malibu

Where the pretty people play,

Hungry for power

To light their neon way

And give them things to do

Some rich men came and raped the land,

Nobody caught 'em

Put up a bunch of ugly boxes, and jesus,

People bought 'em

And they called it paradise

The place to be

They watched the hazy sun, sinking in the sea

You can leave it all behind

And sail to lahaina

Just like the missionaries did, so many years ago

They even brought a neon sign: 'jesus is coming'

Brought the white man's burden down

Brought the white man's reign

Who will provide the grand design?

What is yours and what is mine?

'cause there is no more new frontier

We have got to make it here

We satisfy our endless needs and

Justify our bloody deeds,

In the name of destiny and the name

Of god

And you can see them there,

On sunday morning

They stand up and sing about

What it's like up there

They call it paradise

I don't know why

You call someplace paradise,

Kiss it goodbye

heres just a few songs that move me

U2-Luminous times / one

Floyd-Hey you

Johnny Cash- Hurt

Muse- Unintended

Athlete-street map

William Orbit- Adagio For Strings

Robert miles- children ( Torquay run out to this, always stirs me up)

Jerusalem

And did those feet in ancient time

Walk upon England's mountains green?

And was the holy Lamb of God

On England's pleasant pastures seen?

And did the Countenance Divine

Shine forth upon our clouded hills?

And was Jerusalem builded here

Among these dark satanic mills?

Bring me my bow of burning gold;

Bring me my arrows of desire;

Bring me my spear; O clouds, unfold!

Bring me my chariot of fire!

I will not cease from mental fight,

Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand,

Till we have built Jerusalem

In England's green and pleasant land.

Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison.

At my wedding reception this song came on and one of my good mates asked my now ex if he could cut in and dance with me. The hubby was a bit put out but stepped aside and we had a good old dance Irish-stylee with a bit of spinning etc. We were in fits of laughter by the end of it, and I don't remember seeing my mate for the rest of the night. About a month later I got a phonecall to say he'd been found dead by his flatmate - apparently he died in his sleep and no cause was ever found. I didn't see him again after we hugged at the end of that dance and everytime I hear the intro to that song it makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, but makes me remember him with a smile too.

And now that I've thoroughly depressed everyone..... :good:

Land Of My Fathers (Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau) Cos when I'm not busy being a plastic half-mackem, I'm busy being a plastic half-Welsh Celt. I know it's only rugby like but theres nee other pre match anthem sounds anything like that iywmho.

PS Catherine....have you ever told me that story before (when I've been sober)? Cos I know we've been out a few times when it's been on before. Sad as owt, that! Though in other ways-what a brilliant final memory of someone to have.

It was 6 years ago now so I've stopped bursting into tears when it comes on, but it can still catch me off-guard from time to time. It may well have come on when we've been out, and I may well have just excused myself for a few minutes. :good:

And I've told you lots of things petal, when you've been both sober and so hammered that you got me thrown out of a bowling alley. Gawd only knows which conversations you remember! :D

Cath-it's been on at least once when your ex's brother in law was playing live. Which must have made it all the more poignant. Though a rendition of 'Purple Vein' straight afterwards probably swift restored the spirits.

Scott....I am half welsh as it happens. I'll let you guess which half though. You know what they say about Welsh blokes tbf.
