Happy Face 29
The Decemberists' new 'un. All gone a bit 70s rock opera/dad rock really. Still some decent tracks on it but they still haven't topped Castaways and Cutouts for me. Getting it's first listen from me now. I think it's bloody terrific. Initial opinion is it's better than the Crane Wife...and as good as Picaresque. Got the new Six Organs of Admittance and The Boy Least Likely To albums to give a whirl too. The tracks where they go a bit Sabbath are the best for me plus Shara Worden is a fantastic addition. I like it a lot more than I did last week, for sure. The Hazards of Love 3 (Revenge!) has been on repeat all morning. Supoib I do a little spunk up when the hapsicord starts. I do another when the moog (or whatever) kicks off and one last one when the big "boom crash" drums start. The schoolgirl choir, and cymbals throughout are lush too. Perfection. To make things worse, how about that part in The Queen's Rebuke/The Crossing where it all gets very Deep Purple with the hammond organ and then there's a minute or so where every instrument seems to be soloing at once? I hope the next My Brightest Diamond album sounds like this. She suits rock so well. EDIT: Also, Jack White's New Band The man can't stop writing music and this is as good as always. It sounds like a Jack White band really. Edited March 18, 2009 by Stiva
