Guest Patrokles
The Hold Steady - Boys & Girls In America Steadily climbing up my favourites list for this year. Isn't the bit in the first track when it all drops out and there's a Springsteen-ish moment with just piano great?

This is a nice video, too: Love to see them live some day. I listened to Separation Sunday again recently which I quite liked but never really got into last year. I really like Hornets Hornets and Your Little Hoodrat Friend is possibly my favourite of all of their songs. I seem to remember liking Cattle and The Creeping Things too but I can't really remember any of the other songs. I've downloaded so much lately that it's getting pushed back down my to listen to list but Boys & Girls has really got me interested in them so I think I will be listening to more soon. Guest Patrokles
I definitely found with The Hold Steady that they left me pretty cold at first, but once I found a couple of songs I really liked (Hoodrat Friend and Cattle), I really warmed to the rest of the stuff too. I think lyrically there aren't many who can touch them right now.
David Kelly 1217
I think the mainly spoken vocals on the last album made it difficult to get into at first (with the exception of Hoodrat which was a lot easier). When I listened to it again, I think it was the music that I hooked onto allowing me to get used to vocals a lot more. I agree the lyrics are excellent though. The new album is a lot easier to get into with more traditional singing and more in the way of chorus's that you latch on to.
