Gemmill 46032
Would need to see a transcript of what he said to see if there's anything incriminating in it. I can't remember exactly what was said yesterday. One thing is certain - if he's sueing the BBC, we can't sack him or he'll sue us too, so we're stuck in another soap opera. Great! Craig 6700
'Gardening leave' it is then.... Can see someone else being drafted in to replace him with him being offered a role on the kids coaching staff or something when he's allowed back. Hopefully at that point, he'd walk.... Craig 6700
Newcastle assistant manager Kevin Bond is to sue the BBC for libel over Tuesday night's Panorama expose. The BBC insist comments made by Bond during a secretly-recorded meeting with agent Peter Harrison constitute an admission that he would consider discussing receiving payments from a proposed new agency involving Harrison. Bond, who joined the Magpies from Portsmouth in July, strenuously denies any wrongdoing and insists his remarks have been presented in a "completely misleading manner". Bond's solicitor Kevin Price said in a statement: "My client will be taking proceedings for libel against the BBC over the programme and the media hype generated to publicise it. "The short extract from my client's conversation with the reporter was taken out of context and presented in a completely misleading manner. "It was all smoke and mirrors. It seems that my client was only included because after one year of working on the programme the producers were struggling to fill the one-hour slot." BBC's take on the implication of Bond.... Newcastle first-team coach Kevin Bond is secretly recorded admitting he would consider discussing receiving payments from a proposed new agency involving Harrison. Bond also says he will discuss it with his then boss Harry Redknapp. Bond is currently number two to Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder after moving from Portsmouth in July. He had returned to Portsmouth as assistant manager to Redknapp. He had been on the coaching staff at Fratton Park but followed Redknapp when he moved to Southampton in 2005. Bond previously had coaching spells at Manchester City, Wrexham, Altrincham and Stafford Rangers. During his playing career Bond played for Norwich and was an England B defender. Kevin Bond told the BBC he was not interested in receiving bungs. He also says no-one he has ever worked with has taken a bung Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/5362140.stm
adios 717
The agent offered Redknapp incentives along the lines of free World Cup trips, and I didn't hear Bond say anything in that conversation more incriminating than that. Their defence is going to be along the lines of, we'll take the players based on their merits, but we'd be daft not to take a harmless freebie. Anyone who thinks this shite is unusual in any business needs their head checked. Whether the whole system is fucked is a different matter, and it's not going to change. But this is all about PR, I feel sorry for those who get buried by this, to be honest. They're playing the game by the accepted rules and now they'll probably be shafted for it in a typical, useless witch-hunt.
