David Kelly 1299
I think the added polish from being with a major label now doesn't really help them at all but I still enjoyed it lot on first listen with O Valencia being the stand out track. Not as good as their last album like.
Happy Face 29
I never really persevered with the last album. Which is strange looking back at what I thought when I got it... The Decemberists - Picaresque It's mellifluous. I'll have to get it back on the old mp3 player because looking through the track titles reminds me how good it was. Haven't got the new one like. Picaresque was my favourite Decemberists album on first listen; I found myself coming back more to C & C and even Her Majesty... but I like all of those albums a lot. The new one is a lot like the Tain ep, which isn't my bag really. It really robs the Decemberists of everything they're good at.
Guest Patrokles
The three songs I very much liked on first listen and still do are the only three I like on the album. But they're good. I like the Crane Wife 3, O Valencia, and Yankee Bayonet.

Meenzer 15873
I've always liked the album more than a lot of people seem to, though it helped that "Summersong" triggered an instantaneous and thoroughly messy folk explosion in my heart, whereas it seems to pass most people by. It's only the "When The War Came"/"Shankill Butchers" run that does very little for me. The rest of it I still really like, especially on days like today with the sun pouring through the window and not too much work on my plate. Guest Patrokles
Have to admit that I gave it a proper chance and I do really like the majority of it now, especially The Crane Wife 1 (not so much the '2', ie, outro part).
David Kelly 1299
Still think it's a very solid album.

Guest Patrokles
pitchfork fodder. Tbh, Pitchfork reviews many new albums and whilst I'm not a massive fan of the site, the chances are that they'll have reviewed many good albums. Your comment smacks of someone who is just as much a hipster as the site he derides. Especially considering your comment in the other thread.
