Bombadil 0
Seeing as this hasn't been posted yet... By Lee Ryder, The Evening Chronicle Shola Ameobi believes he will not last the season before he needs an operation on the hip injury which has plagued him for 12 months. The news has taken a bit of the gloss off United's excellent 2-0 victory over West Ham at Upton Park - a game in which the 24-year-old striker turned in an unselfish performance. Ameobi was back alongside Oba Martins after sitting out the UEFA Cup win over Levadia Tallinn on Thursday night. On the evidence of yesterday they look as though they could form an outstanding little and large partnership. But Ameobi accepts he will need an operation to cure his hip problem once and for all and that this is likely to happen sooner rather than later. Club doctor, Roddy McDonald, has been in contact with a number of surgeons, including the specialist at Dr Richard Steadman's Colorado clinic that repaired Sunderland striker Kevin Kyle's troublesome hip. Says Ameobi: "I've been speaking to the doctor and a few surgeons about it, and the manager's been advised not to play me in too many games in a week. "The problem's deteriorating, which is a shame. I just need to see how long I can go before I need an operation. We'll just have to wait and see how long I can keep on going. "I'm going to keep on doing what I'm doing until the time's right to get the operation. "I'm hoping to get to Christmas - that's more realistic than the end of the season. Hopefully we'll be able to get a couple of strikers in that period." It will be the second operation Ameobi has had on his hip, the 24-year-old having gone under the knife last year. Ameobi said: "It's been frustrating. If I'm honest, it's something I've had for two years. I've never felt fully, fully fit, to be honest. "But I'm not making excuses. I have to perform, and I have to do the best I can, every time I play."

TOPTOON 0
Shit! Begs the question why he didn't have the operation at the end of last season giving him a hell of alot of time to recover. Him and martins seem to be a decent front two, i suppose now its alternate Ameobi and the Sib with Martins untill Xmas and then try and get another 'Big Man' in while Shola recovers or try Martins up front on his own which may not work. Hows Baptista doing at Arsenal? Edited September 18, 2006 by TOPTOON
Bizza 105
You should've had it during the summer then you fucking mong.
adios 717
You should've had it during the summer then you fucking mong. Probably not all his decision, plus he'd possibly be out for a year, we're pretty desperate for a half-fit Shola at the moment. John 11:
Holden McGroin 6983
Shame as he has been looking good. Unfair to be playing him half fit as well.
Gemmill 47377
Can I just say how ridiculous this is. You know he's going to miss some of a season whenever he has the op. So why not give him it the day after last season finishes to minimise his time away from the team? It makes so much more sense to let him start the season, break down with it, and have him miss as much of the season as possible. I also think it's ridiculous that he's having to talk about getting through til Christmas - if he's still carrying an injury that he's had for a few seasons now, we should be looking after his interests and getting it put right, not taking the piss out of him and making him play through til the transfer window re-opens. Isegrim 10037
I also find it ridiculous that Shola barely ever is in full training because of the injury. Now, that will make him match-fit...
Guest alex
Didn't the 'specialist' he was seeing decide he didn't need an op in the summer? Broke down straight away. Not necessarily the club's fault though.

Gemmill 47377
That's happened two close seasons in a row though. Who are they taking him to see, Dr. Fox?

sweetleftpeg 0
Pressure from high above me thinks. Knew we were going to be struggling for forwards so Shola has probably been told to grin and bear it.
Guest alex
And is made to look a twat by having to play half-fit. Canny few players would have told the club where to shove it.

Preying on the fact that he's a local lad and he knows to an extent that he's running out of time to make it as a Premiership striker. They would never dare take the piss out of Owen like this. The caring club looking after its players again.
