Dr Gloom 22228
i'm chuffed for the lad for breaking his duck and i hope he goes on to bang a few more in for us. but.... where is this electric pace i keep on hearing about? i thought he could run the 100m in 11 seconds. from what i've seen so far he's no slouch but he's certainly not in the bellamy league. what's the craic? am i wrong - is he really that fast? No he's not really that fast, but seems quite hard to shrug off the ball.
pertoon 0
A bit better but have to agree not the pace we were led to believe as yet. Still perhaps he has to warm up. Its certainly better than the rigger mortis he was sufferinhg from against Villa and Fulham.

Jimbo 175
I think there have been glimpses of it so far, one that springs to mind for me was in the Tahlin game where he overtook and rounded the left back to win the ball back.
Guest alex
It's 18 seconds, not 11 seconds for the 100m apparently.

Aye, I remember that, against a weak side; think he'll show a lot more when he's used to the style of the Premiership. Speaking of pace, I thought Bellamy looked like he'd lost a yard of pace against Chelsea on Sunday.
TOPTOON 0
Be interesting to see if Martins could operate as a lone striker if needs be. Personally i'd preffer two but the need may arise i.e. Chelski away
rebellious 0
I don`t think many have given him the room behind yet to use it. Also he isn`t 100% fit yet. Maybe he can run like shit off a shovel but maybe he also knows its best not to for the sake of it, risking hammys.
skhwoody 0
When his fitness is tops he will no doubt succumb to the newcastle virus, quick injury and hamstring maybe..... but i hope when he has had a sustained run in the side, we will finally see the man he is supposed to be..... (hes great on FM06 35 goals in 25)

From what I've seen I would say he is quicker than Bellamy without the ball, but significantly slower than Bellamy with the ball. I don't think Bellamy would have got to the ball against Talinn that lead to the goal
manc-mag 1
Given the pace of the Italian game, I can imagine he looked like shit off a stainless steel shovel over there-but would only look average pace over here. Our games played at far too high a tempo tbh, to the detriment of technical ability. Which is why we are always ultimately fucking gash at international level, where skill will nearly always win out over athleticism.

sweetleftpeg 0
For all their quality strikers (which they are) Liverpool just seem unable to score. Then along come NUFC to Anfield...

That is what I fear. I think with Kuijt it was just down to bad luck so far, he really looked a good signing for them so far. There were also few signs from him and Bellamy in the game against PSV to form a good partnership. I hope this comes after tomorrows game where hopefully Crouch and Fowler will start... Agree with the second bit but not the first. Seconded. But I think the difference between defending in Italy and England is that it is here far more physical. In Italy players can run with the ball and deep positioned and use their pace to get past them. In England players normally don't even get time to control the ball without being under pressure. That is why Martins looked horrible in his first to games. He more or less got man-marked by Mellberg and Knight who didn't even give him a iota of space to break free and as soon as he got the ball were pushing him around. Only if Martins is getting used to this and being able to shake off defenders he will be able to become a hit in the Premierleague.
