Park Life 71
Let me see now. A "limited budget". Please tell us how many clubs with good boards ie better than our shit one, matched a "limited budget" of 15m quid....or even got close by filling smaller stadiums ....... YOU obviously think we have plenty of money if you think we could buy half a team ..... If you didn;t want us to buy forwards, please tell us who exactly you think would be playing in attack now, having lost Owen and Shearer ? And - if you think 15m quid would buy 4 or 5 players, then they would buy average players at best. The biggest mistake and the most short sighted policy of all is to buy average players who you will need to replace in a year or two, the best planning and strategy by a million miles is to buy, in the managers opinion, quality. Which is exactly what he has done. If you can't see this, then you are - again - a fuckwit. Roeders choice of players is nothing to do with the board. If you think we have made 3 "panic buys" then it is his fault, not the boards, particularly as you aren't disputing it didn't happen before. Which also blows a hole in your theory that Shepherd is the manager, or it would have happened before. How many of our current players do you consider to be "panic buys" ? And do you think that as you consider the 3 players you mention "panic buys" rather than see them correctly as squad players [and one of them is actually on loan so isn't even a "panic buy" or any buy] while the club looks around for more quality and gets more money together --- that we would be better off without them and have a squad of about 14 players ? If you do, then you are - again, a fuckwit. As I said, if the club had bought a decent defender and a forward, who exactly do you think would be playing up front , would you be happy with that ? If Ameobi is out, would you then complain the club didn't bring in someone to cover him, having spent their money on a defender You would be complaining that the "shit" board didn't buy more forwards. Your total inability to do anything other than criticise what ever they do, whichever strategy they choose, is particularly cretinous and ridiculous especially when it comes on the back of you then expecting them to fund millions of pounds more than other boards who presumably you think are "better". In MY opinion, buying 2 forwards - with the .....eeerr.... "limited Budget" [who very few match] was absolutely the main priority and if they succeed the defence will, and will have to, come next. Some of your points are well made but you're confusing me as to why you re-iterate the notion that we no longer had the resources to strengthen the defence. Your attitude borders on some sought of propaganda campaign! 1) A team can have the most limited budget, i.e. £0, and still sign Campbell, Woodgate (loan), Johnson (loan), Trabelsi (pay as you play). Why you keep forgetting this is quite bemusing. 2) The club made a late bid for Huth and Viduka proving there was more money to spend, therefore the budget wasn't as 'limited' as you presume. The above are facts yet you seem to show no interest in consistently including them in your thinking. As to whose fault it was that we didn't sign them, i don't know. I don't presume it was Shepherd, the club have spent heavily under his stewardship and for that i can have little complaint. But something went very wrong in our approach to the transfer window. We needed defenders and could have had them for an outlay of £0 yet we only signed Bernard, whose yet to play because he is sooooo out of practice. We don't have to say who, because we don't know, but someone at NUFC f**ked up in no small way over the summer just gone. These are hardly revelations I am not excusing anything. I realise we could have signed those players. However, does it simply not occur to you the manager didn't want them ? And in my view, he is fully justified for not wanting Woodgate [as we have enough injury prone players], Campbell [looking for a last pay day and may not really have his heart in it] . As for players signing for Man City, it is slightly ironic that Newcastle fans are slagging off their club for not signing free transfer players, yet Man City fans are slagging off their club for signing free transfer players and not paying money for bargain players such as Damien Duff when they have the opportunity ? So who, on this evidence, would like to swap our board with Man city ---- a club that has won domestic trophies and been ahead of us for the vast majority of the 30 years previous to our current board taking over the club. Does it occur to you that the club may have been hoping for Huth and viduka;s fees to lower as the deadline approached ? Or do you think that as they are strapped for cash they should have spent it anyway ? And , surely if Huth signed for the smogs on deadline day it at least shows fuckwits like Dan that contrary to what he appears to think, making last minute transfer deals is hardly a phenonema dominated by only NUFC ? How come the great chairman Steve gibson allows his club to get involved in "panic pre deadline transfers ? The club cannot sign every player YOU think they should. Its unrealistic and daft tbh, but I suspect that YOU may realise that, unlike some of the more idiotic on here. Some of your post does not really seem as a response to mine so i expect you are feeling you are having to answer lots of people in one go, sympathies extended. Re: Bit in bold. That is my completely uninformed reading of the situation. Roeder obviousley passed over the players we've mentioned because he believed he could get someone more suitable. Unfortunately, he didn't. I might also add that the players mentioned are an improvement on our current squad, imo. What i find puzzling is that there was no evident 'plan B.' Roeder said (after signing Martins) that he really didn't have anyone else in mind and i didn't believe him (at the time). However, the lack of any alternative to Huth has made me rethink. Personally, i find this a very naive way for a Prem manager to plan. What happenned to the days when teams signed promising players from the lower leagues and bedded them in through the reserve system. You can't tell me the scouts haven't identifyied 2 or 3 good defenders in their early twenties who couldn't make an impact for us in the next season or two. It's a mystery to me. Where do you see the club by next summer? Do you think we'll be able to sign the players we need in January? Do you think Roeder will still be in charge? Do you think Shearer will be his assistant? I think next summer we will be consolidating and rebuilding financial stability after the mess the jock fuckpig left us in. And I think financial stability now is essential. We might qualify for europe again, we will be one of the clubs between 6th and 10th. Which is the logic behind Roeders appointment I think, someone who would work hard for the club who would put its interests first. Roeder will still be in charge if we do this, whether or not we do I think almost totally depends on how successful Martins is, and to a lesser degree Duff, because its where he spent his money - the 2 things are tied together with those players. No, I don't think Shearer will come in while Roeder is doing alright or better. What do you think ?

I must be honest and say that i think we may struggle to do that though. I just don't think we have the defensive quality to do so. Martins does look like a player who can create his own goals (if he hits some good form) but i think the rest of the time our forwards won't always get the support they need because the CM's and FB's will be worried about pushing on and leaving the back exposed. I don't think we have a single good defender at the club. If we manage to rectify that in January then i will re-evaluate my expectations. What i was hoping for was that Roeder would be able to coach our team to defend properly, for whatever reason, that doesn't appear to be happening. If we don't qualify for Europe i think FS will decide to replace Roeder. As for Shearer coming in, i don't think he'll get involved yet (if ever). I am not predicting relegation after 7 games, having played 2 of the 4 hardest games of the season already. I have reservations about Martins, he hasn't impressed me too much, but I want him to succeed, it is massively important that the club stops wasting money on such a scale. 37m quid to replace Shearer and Bellamy, just isn't funny. It is the whole crust of people disagreeing about the board really. It's a colossal amount of money, and if it was spent well, nobody would be slagging off the board. I am still hoping that Roeder will coach the defenders better, having chosen to spend his money on attackers, and is the reason why I defend his choice of spending his money on forwards. However the key, is that better quality up front will take pressure off the defenders, so good organisation to go with it is the right approach imo, and I'm sure that is what he intended. He might sack Roeder if we don't qualify for europe. However if Martins and Duff perform well, and the club show signs of stabilisation and preparing to move forward again, which takes time, it would be a mistake. I really have no idea what the club will do if he sacks Roeder and Shearer decides to stick with commentating for the beeb. But then again, while I defend Shepherd for backing his managers and showing ambition , because that is correct and is something most chairman don't do - I don't agree with some decisions eg I think of the realistic choices of managers in the premiership, Allardyce would have been mine, but I can see the merits of appointing someone with the interests of the club at heart with coaching ability, due to the financial situation. The Fish 10978
I think Freddy Shepherd has taken us nowhere, it's time for a reshuffling of staff and that reshuffling should not omit a soul. Since he took the reigns we've gone from genuine title challengers with Chances in all the cups bothe domestic And Continental.. to a circus team with a convulsive league standing, derided by the opposition, journalists, pundits and worst of all, our own fans. When will you admit that the culpability lays at Freddy's feet. I'm afraid the buck stops with him. He is the chairman, he has final say in the running of this club. He should know who and when to hires and fire, buy and sell, speak or holds his tongue! Didn't we join with Dalian Shide to improve our image in the far east? how many oriental players have we on our books? how many oriental players are there in the Premiership? Granted some have come from European leagues, but by christ you'd have thought we'd have seen one kid that showed some degree of promise? he's a fucking PR nightmare and runs this club like George Reynolds ran Darlo... into the ground. Missed Sticks 0
I'm far from sure that replacing the Board is the answer tbh. I'd be more in favour of changing it's composition. Without sounding overly simplistic, we need someone with a real in depth knowledge of fooball and has the connections to help the Board make better informed decisions when it comes to Coach and Manager appointments. SBR would have been perfect imo but we've obviously burnt those bridges!

Without sounding overly simplistic, we need someone with a real in depth knowledge of fooball and has the connections to help the Board make better informed decisions when it comes to Coach and Manager appointments. SBR would have been perfect imo but we've obviously burnt those bridges! I agree with that. After years of puting up with shep and realising there are worse about I dont trust him to accept the decisions of someone in that position. We have had financial fellas walk out in dodgy circumstances and I am certain that anyone in that position would be undermined. Shep isnt the worst but enough is enough. He is the chairman equivalent of Titus.
LeazesMag 0
If he truly wanted this club to be succesful he'd see he wasn't the best man for the job. while I don't want to run like a star crossed lover into the arms of a business group with less than transparent objectives, I'm at the stage where I'm prepared to accept any degree of change at the top! ..
