Muslim When They Want To Be?

I dont know if any of you have heard about the lad from Pakistan who lived over here.

He went back home and got accused of murdering a taxi driver. Anyway, he was cleard but an ancient Islamic law still said for some reason (cant remember or find a link) he was guilty.

The last 8 years he has been getting ready to be executed. Anyway, his brother has been trying to get him off the hook, and now he is wanting Blair to get involved and get him off.

So is it a case of Islam is OK but not when youre in the shite yourself? Or is it a case of some of the laws over the world, they need updating, but they are so involved in religion the wont change it?

Was this the ancient Islamic law of "whatever the courts say, the opposite is true"?

Just a much lower threshold for conviction I should think, the kind of thing Leazes is in favour of (btw, as this thread has muslim in the title, Leazes is absolutely guaranteed to read this). :icon_lol:

Like Alex, it's impossible to discuss without the full facts. For instance are they British citizens or not etc.

I'd like a link to the actual story before discussing it tbh.

here we are

Having read that, I think he is entitled to the same diplomatic efforts to save him as any other British citizen.

Mind, it doesn't explain to me how he was tried twice, and I know nothing of the Pakastani legal system.

Death row man pleads for his life

Mirza Tahir Hussain

Mirza Tahir Hussain's new execution date has been set for 1 October

A Leeds man who has been in a Pakistan prison for 18 years and is due to be executed next month has pleaded for help from Tony Blair.

Mirza Tahir Hussain, 36, faces execution for killing a taxi driver.

He told the BBC's Asian Network: "I appeal to the conscience and good humanity of President Musharraf to pardon or commute my death sentence.

"I also call upon Tony Blair to use the relationship Britain has with Pakistan to bring me home."

He said: "I'd like to thank everybody who has campaigned for me particularly the people of Leeds, Amnesty International, the ICRC (International Committee of the Red Cross) and the British High Commissioner in Islamabad.

"Please Mr Blair, take me home - I have suffered enough. My life is to be terminated. I miss my mum, my brother, my nephews, my elders, teachers, family and friends."

Islamic court

Mr Hussain claims he killed the taxi driver in self-defence. After several trials, Pakistan's High Court threw out his guilty verdict, citing flawed evidence.

But he was then retried by an Islamic court, which sentenced him to death.

Despite pleas from his family and senior UK politicians, including the prime minister and the foreign secretary, he has not been freed.

Previous stays of execution have expired and now only President Musharraf can grant him a pardon or commute the sentence.

His new execution date has been set for 1 Octob

The bloke has been let off death and has been given a life sentance instead, but seen as though he has already served 18 years doing porridge it looks like he maybe back home soon!

Well, if a Pakistani citizen had done that here, I'd want him deported after his life sentence. You can't have it both ways.

one of the 92% losers I suspect - not that there is any gambling in Pakistan of course

I'll make your day, Rob, that figure your quoting is at the "optimistic" end of the estimated profitable poker players, it may be more like 2%.

Not like you to be quoting figures you know nothing about, though, eh Rob?
