Luque Latest.........

Deportivo La Coruna president Augusto Cesar Lendoiro has blasted Newcastle over their conduct in trying to land Albert Luque.

Both Newcastle boss Graeme Souness and the player's father, Rafael, have confirmed that an accord has been struck over the striker's personal terms but as yet, no compromise has been reached between the two clubs.

Whilst Newcastle appear to believe they have finally landed a high profile forward after a summer of disappointment, Luque's current paymasters are livid about the conduct of their Premiership counterparts.

Whilst Newcastle are ready to pay £8 million and Hugo Viana in exchange for the 27-year-old Spanish international, Depor are demanding the cash equivalent - thought to be in the region of £10.7 million, which Newcastle would be reticent to pay.

Bids for Michael Owen and Nicolas Anelka have failed to bring the type of quality craved at St James' Park, as the pressure mounts for Souness to land an experienced partner for Alan Shearer.

The arrival of Luque, left out of Depor's squad for the InterToto Cup final against Marseille, would boost flagging moral in the North East but it would appear further discourse is definitely needed between both parties before any agreement is reached.

''It's true the English invented the rules of football, but not the rules when it comes to negotiating a deal,'' said Lendoiro.

''First there has to be an agreement arrived at with Depor and afterwards with the player.''
