CCTV What do you reckon

I was opposed to it when they first started popping up all over, but now I'm in favour.

If you are doing nowt wrong they are on your side. Lasses are safer walking the streets (not that way B) )

There are not many crimes committed in Newcastle city centre which are not picked up on camera.

I don't think you could commit a crime say outside the Dog and Parrot then get across to the Haymarket without getting picked out / up.

Im in favour of them practically but when theyre fuckin everywhere..

Even if your doing nothing wrong they can be a bit scary, specially when one turns and faces you on your own B)

Im all for it. The way I think of it is that if my lass was out on her own, and someone started harrassing her, I'd want the fuckers nailed. CCTV gives you a good chance of that happening.

Then you have all the thieves etc that should have their hands chopped off but get away with a slap, that also can be caught.

Dont get me started on that though B)

Think they record crimes but don't really prevent them. In some cases the footage is so poor that they are little or no use in catching people who have committed crimes. I'm not really sure if they're a good or bad thing tbh.

A few of my mates when I was a student, stole some signs from some road works and made off with them in a wheel-barrow. They were apprehended halfway across a green when a police car came skidding up beside them. They'd just followed them through town on the CCTV.

Kerr-aaazy!

I think some are a good thing, i.e. city centre ones that are monitored etc. but many aren't so all they do is record what happened somewhere. It would be impossible for them all to be monitored obviously, but I think that means many are a bit of a waste of time.

You're right like, they need to be monitored to be successful, I've no idea of the logistics of making that happen. Software to parse out the ones that don't need human attention at any given moment should certainly be being looked at.

Arnt they rolling out this new facial recognition software?

So the camera operator know who you are and can cross ref you in the police database, the new id database etc etc etc.

The whole thing is completely dodgy if you ask me.

in future, the police will be catching criminals by watching cctv footage and then 'swooping' on them.

Did you know that if you have a CCTV camera and dont have a visible sign declaring that you are filming....then it wont be classed as evidence in a court of law.

I know that with office / shop security, but does that apply to the Law cameras?

It never fails to amaze me when you see the dogshit footage on Crimewatch etc from such cameras. You get better stuff from your fucking phone!
