Ah the "I'm so cool because I can name people hardly anyone has heard of" list.

Poor year, this year, when compared to last year for me. Only Guillemots and The Longcut stand out for me so far. Thom Yorkes was ok but didn't do much for me.

Lostprophets - Liberation Transmission

Razorlight - Razorlight

The Answer - Rise

Tool - 10,000 Days

Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam

Johnny Cash - American V: A Hundred Highways

Those are my favourites out of the albums I've heard but overall I haven't really been impressed with most new music this year.

Not certain all these are 2006, but if so I'd throw in honourable mentions for

New Pornographers - Twin Cinema

Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan - Ballad of Broken Seas

Johnny Cash - American V

Animal Collective - Feels

Danielson - Ships

;)

tbh I don't think many of those in my 10 are or will be "cool" any time soon. Mainly old Person music. I think Cut Chemist would be the only one 'the kids' would go for, and Peasepud has heard him, so hardly cutting edge ;)

His Welcome to Illinoise was offically the best CD of last year. ALBUM FACT!

Pianos, Flutes, Horns, Acoustics, Banjo's, a lovely voice, perfect harmonies, catchy tunes and some of the greatest track titles to ever grace a record.

Not particularly, but I fancy you might like it all the same. It's all very nice in a non-grating kind of way, and since you're into Sigur Rós's prettier moments, there's probably some crossover there. :(

Guest Patrokles

Everyone gets boners over Illinois but really it got far too overblown and very much petered out. But it's too much. In fairness, it has some of his best individual songs, but he started to believe his own hype. Michigan is great and far more focused.

And, no, it's nothing like the Waterboys.
