Scottish Mag 3
Newcastle United will step up their bid to sign Chelsea centre-half Robert Huth in the wake of yesterday's disappointing defeat at Villa Park. And Roeder will still be hoping to bring in another striker even though fears that Oba Martins would be out for a long time after he was stretchered off were allayed, with the £10m man only suffering a dead leg But with the transfer deadline now just three days away, it looks as though United are lumbered with another £10m man in Albert Luque, who does not seems to have the desire or the fire in his belly to play for the club. Yesterday was United's first defeat in 13 competitive matches and fans can only hope that it turns out be a blessing in disguise. Certainly the defeat highlighted the need for a commanding central defender and a left-back as a very ordinary Villa side made United look poor at the back. And while there has been plenty of talk over the weekend of Jonathan Woodgate returning to the Premiership, quite frankly the Real Madrid man is not what United need at the moment. What they do need is a commanding centre-half like Huth (pictured) who is going to give them 35 to 40 games a season, and it's a long time since Woodgate was able to offer that. Roeder accepts that the fans want action and not words and he is reluctant to talk about who may or may nor becoming in by Thursday's deadline. He did tell me at Villa Park last night: "I am living on the mobile phone at the moment, but one of the biggest problems we have is that the season has now started in the rest of Europe. Coaches have got their squads together and it is proving difficult to prise players away." Thomas Gravesen's agent John Sivebaek is in constant touch with St James' Park but midfield is not a priority for United, as much as Aston Villa's Gavin McCann demonstrated what a tough-talking midfielder can mean to a team. Because of the European qualifiers in the next 10 days, United have a fortnight's to lick their wounds after yesterday's defeat. And while Martins should be OK for the visit of Fulham to St James' Park a week on Saturday, it is by no means certain that the new boy will have Shola Ameobi at his shoulder. The gangling striker, who already has a hip problem, is battling against the dreaded hamstring injury. United have a reserve match with Everton at Kingston Park tomorrow when all their first- team fringe players can expect to be on view. Todays reports show that Roeder disagrees... Optimistic Nut 146
Taylor right-back, Bridge left-back, Woodgate & Huth in the centre...for 6 games a season anyway. The other 30+ we're still slotting the likes of Moore, Bramble & Carr in to step in for injuries.
TomH 0
Huth would be a great signing i think and Woodgate would be if he was ever fit..

Sicklee Sausage Roll 0
And while there has been plenty of talk over the weekend of Jonathan Woodgate returning to the Premiership, quite frankly the Real Madrid man is not what United need at the moment. Do any other regions papers have an equivalent to Arsehole Oliver, or do their reporters actually report on football rather than pretend they run the team? I'm not interested in who Alan thinks we need, it's got fuck all to do with him.

Geordie Boyo 24
Woodgate is said to have met both the Smoggies (This afternoon) & Newcastle (tonight) before deciding who to sign for tomorrow according to SSN. Have seen fuck all about us and the Huth apart from that artical. Edited August 28, 2006 by Geordie Boyo

Mind, Portsmouth have had a great start this season! 186418[/snapback] I think Pompey can be do well this season. Actually I do think the whole Premierleague will be far more competitive with a couple of teams fighting for the title and European places.
