Ally 0
I definetly think that an A* should be introduced for A Levels. Oh, and Gemmill - I would have been in the paper but I was too busy consoling my (now) ex-girlfriend who did shite, silly cow missed my moment of fame! snakehips 0
Clearing shouldn't be allowed tbh. If you aren't dedicated/good enough to meet your stated goals, then further education isn't for you. Get on a YT and learn a trade instead. 179506 I don't think it's as clear cut as that tbh. I completely flunked my A-Levels, more to do with my attitude stinking than my actual abilities. I had to do a foundation course as a result and therefore was at university a year longer than most but I got my head down and earned my degree. 179545 Correct. I am a classic example of immature student turning into someone who can study to good success - should I wish to. We can't write off early failures as a sign of things to come. I think there is far too much emphasis on getting people into university though, like Ewerk said above "I've seen people with EEU get into courses through clearing which is completely pointless." University is now just an excuse for average students to get hammered and dye their hair rather than centre's of excellence for the elite. If it was still restricted to the cream of the crop I'd be a lot happier paying fees for the less privelged to go via my taxes. As it is I resent paying for someone with E's to flunk their way through 3 years of taking cones home, and am glad grants were stopped.
Craig 6682
I definetly think that an A* should be introduced for A Levels.179550 Why not simply alter the grading thresholds? I've never understood this A* bollocks, the top grade should simply be 'A', if the governing bodies don't think that's high enough then quite frankly they're admitting that they're over-rating students. sweetleftpeg 0
I went through clearing like, between 16-18 I discovered alcohol big style and went to a canny few away games, thus my A-levels suffered. Still, got a canny degree and met my Mrs, one out of two ain't bad.

Whether they introduce an A* or just make As harder to get is trivial really.
Ted Maul 0
Just got back. DDDU Slightly dissapointed but it still allows me to get into Uni (Mackem Poly doing Journalism if anyone is intrested).
Jill 0
Argh it's 3 years since my results. Really, really glad I never went to uni though. This time 3 years ago I was bricking it that I'd made the wrong decision (especially as I got good A Levels) but it was definitely the right choice. I was sitting on a low D at the end of my AS year but I managed to get a clean sweep of U's this year Words cannot describe how much I detested that subject. No N's nowadays, just a U if you fail. Ted Maul are you Skol btw? 179773 Shorthand, libel laws, history or Journalism etc. etc. In the second year you select whether you want to continue in the broadcast journalism route or newspaper journalism IIRC. For the degree to be worth anything in the real world the Uni needs to have a certificate from the NCTJ. There are only six institues with this certificate, Sunderland being one of them. And yes, yes I am. Edited August 17, 2006 by Ted Maul
