Shame on you.

The problem with reading this thread is it's making me want to go back and watch a LOT of movies.

I'll confess like, I never really got a lot of the fuss over Blade Runner - only seen it once when I was pretty young.  Maybe I need to watch it again.

But make sure it is the original release Scotty, none of this crappy, wank filled directors cut he released years later.

I prefer the original with the Philip Marlowe-esque voice-overs too.

One of the few times a hollywood studio actually got it right when they asked the director to reconsider a "few things."

The reason the voice over is so deadpan is because Harrison Ford hated the idea, so tried to do it so unemotionally that they couldnt use it.

As opposed to the suddnely appearing unicorns and dead silent moments without the voice over.

If Hans Solo really voiced it that way, then his contempt really was his best piece of acting ever.

"What's danger doing out there? What's he looking at?"

"Looks like a bottle of water."

"He pay his dues?"

"Dues? Boy can't afford pants, you want him to pay dues?"

The unicorn is a memory that has been planted into Deckard's memory though as he is actually an Android himself

Was that ever conclusively proved, one way or the other?

No and iirc it's not clear in the book either. Standard for Philp K. Dick tbh.

It's probably the whole point of it.

What's the book like? Don't know if I've ever read anything by him.

Ford thought he wasnt, Scott thought he was. More reason for Harrison Ford to be unhappy with the way the film was made

I liked it and I like other stuff that I’ve read by him too. It’s probably one of his more straightforward novels though. I say that but I’ve only read about 5 or 6 of them and he wrote absolutely loads (over 50 I think). It’s quite different from the film in that Deckard is basically overstretched financially in terms of his lifestyle and he’s trying to kill the robots in order to bring some money in to keep his wife happy etc. The title ‘Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?’ Is a reference to pets being status symbols in the future due to a lack of animals. Deckard though can only afford an electric sheep, not a real one. Does it mean he’s an android or is it simply a reference to the robots he pursues?

I think the point I got from the movie, though it's a long time since I've thought about it, was that it didn't really matter whether he was or wasn't. The fact that he didn't know meant they had finally created a human and also threw into question the nature of our whole existence...or something.

Book added to list, I've just looked at how many books he's published - he must be older than RobW!
