Guest alex
Is They Live the one with Roddy Piper? 163760 Aye. The Earth's been infiltrated by Aliens and they can only be seen by wearing special sunglasses. Class tbh.
adios 717
EB asside it's actually a good list of films though certainly not a definitive list of the best movies ever. If you would get them all on DVD you have a good selection of films from a pretty wide sprectrum. There are some glaring omissions though. No Godfather, Lord Of The Rings, Star Wars, Leone, Spielberg, Bogart to name a few. If you'd never seen any of those you would be missing out on a huge part of what's best in cinema. As has already been said, more than anything else it's more of a coming soon than anything else. 163706 I'll forgive them EB for leaving those out tbh. Some great films been mentioned: Memento, Withnail & I, Ghostworld, and therre's got to be well of over 50 of that calibre not mentioned. HF - I thought Brazil was a very decent movie, you need to buy a new book...

adios 717
Please don't say Schindler's List. Spielberg produces shallow, sentimentalist guff, if that's your sort of thing. Some of his lighter stuff is decent popcorn, I just think he's massively over-rated.

No director has ever been as good at thrilling an audience save perhaps Hitchcock.

Some of that is what I was referring to when I said "lighter stuff", I'd include Minority Report in that, too. You can both fuck off with your ET, though, pure shite. You've probably hit the nail on the head with that bolded bit; that was top-notch popcorn (unless you were actually there, apparently), and then it decends into his usual cry-porn wank-fest. Guest alex
I was joking re: E.T. like, I haven't seen it since I was about 9. 'Jaws' is an absolutely class film though, like the Indiana Jones films too (they were George Lucas too though iirc), I'd forgotten about 'Duel' but that's a good one too (his 1st?). Even 'Jurassic Park' is a good film. Not sure if any of those are right up there in my favs of all-time though, maybe 'Jaws' and 'Raiders..'. I must confess I've never got round to watching 'Schindler's List'.

Subjects like that deserve more gravitas, to be honest. Or Life is Beautiful, another fantastic movie.

I agree. 163857 I think The Pianist is better, but yes, fantastic movie. I would distinguish between a genuinely touching movie (which incidentally plenty of the main stream complained about making light of the holocaust because they are too emotionally undeveloped to understand it) and puppy-love, teenage, my boyfriend left me , lay it on with a trowel, sentimentality, yes. I'm surprised the rest of Private Ryan didn't appeal to you tbh.
