Isegrim 9778
I'd have it brought back, the amount of repeat offenders and with overcrowding of prisons, it makes sense to bring it back, especially for certain crimes, it should be done in public too. It would serve as a great deterant. 13274 That is why all those funny Islamic countries have such a low crime rate...

adios 717
If you commit a serious crime here in the local community where I am at the moment then you would be burnt alive. Not long ago a kiddy fiddle was found out tossed in a pit in the town centre and burnt to death. Not alot of crime with the local community at all. Must say I dont agree with it, but it is their way of life. 13176 Not surprised by that! Where do you live, Summerisle?

Dr Kenneth Noisewater 0
Not sure about birching but I think prison should be made a lot tougher. TVs, pool tables, weight rooms? They're supposed to be being punished, not in a hotel.

Feel free to move to Saudi Arabia, but you know porn is forbidden there... an wanking probably a capital crime...

BlueStar 0
Advice for people travelling to Saudi Arabia: Possession of alcohol and preaching religions other than Islam may result in imprisonment and corporal punishment. The importation and use of alcohol, pork products, pornography, religious books and materials (other than those relating to Islam) is forbidden. Conviction for some criminal offences may result in fines, imprisonment, corporal punishment, deportation or the death penalty. Penalties for importing, possessing or using drugs are severe and include the death penalty. I dunno what's worse, having little chaver gits doing what they want, or not being able to have a pint, a bacon sarnie and a copy of Swank. Smooth Operator 10
My views are simple: For rape - Cut their knobs off For theft: Cut their hands off For murder: Cut their heads off For kiddy fiddling: All of the above I'm off now to catch a flight to the middle east where these laws are practised. Papa Lazaru 0
I'm in favour of criminals suffering (alot), how that is done is always open to debate, just as long as they do!

The Fish 10857
surely it's the responsibility of the parents to discipline their children from day 1, they should have been taught to respect adults and figures of authority. Like Teachers, Policemen and even other members of their community. I don't condone corporal punishment in schools because it's too open to abuse, if you excuse the pun. I agree with Bootcamps, but not the belt. I'm an advocate of national service and I'm and stopic supporter of prevenetion rather than punishment. In my opinion, once it gets to the stage where you have to physically beat an adult, then it's too late
sweetleftpeg 0
So the women who had their convictions quashed for killing their babies due to a dodgy prosecution 'expert', would we just sow their heads back on?

Rob W 0
No evidence it works - same with hanging people for stealing People are stupid enough to think they will get away with it - or you only catch the stupid ones................................ BlueStar 0
I'd imagine if you brought it back now you'd get lots of chavers walking around with their tops off to show off how many lashes they'd got and how hardcore they were. "Did it hurt?" "Nah!" Bearing in mind there was a trend amongst chavers at my school to walk around with a big scar and welt in the middle of your forehead where you'd got your mate to shoot you with an air rifle. Maybe we should consider taking thumbs off instead of the birch, or maybe even branding there forehead with thief, pervert etc.
Rob W 0
Saudi Arabia may well have a low "crime rate" - you'd be a brave man to wander into a Saudi Police station to report anything for a start plus of course the Stae employs torture on a regular basis plus the Religious Police can burst in on ANY gathering and beat those present (Christmas dinner for example) or a woman showing an inch too much leg Of course all those Saudis in Lebanon, Bahrein, Cairo, S of Spain, London getting pissed, gambling and mixing with women are all good law abiding folk at home

Guest alex
I find it quite ironic that someone who was constantly boasting about scoring drugs from the Byker Wall should have such a hardline stance on crime.
