Barry Knight..

After Coco and Bennett, here's yet another clown.

Having inflicted Steve Bennett upon us, those cheeky chappies at the FA have quite literally played their joker by selecting for our next match the other half of the Orpington Anti-Geordie Alliance - Barry Knight.

Knight's last low-key appearance at SJP ended with Newcastle having eight men on the field and Villa leaving with a 3-0 win featuring two penalties (one clearly outside the box) - and that was one of his better games.....

And in another show of comedy timing from Soho Square, Knight was back in charge of us again less than a month later - this time at Goodison Park.

Like his red cards for the trio of miscreants in the home game against Villa the dismissal of Ameobi was inevitable, but his contribution to this game was to mysteriously award Everton a free kick from which they scored.

As Souness said on the day:

The referee was apologising to some of our lads before the game for the penalty he gave in that Aston Villa match. It was outside the box and he said that.

"That was the game when we had three players sent off out of extreme frustration. But Mr Knight escaped without any criticism that day and this time he has given a free-kick to Everton that wasn't and it changed the game.

"There were other decisions he got wrong. We feel hard done by again because of Mr Knight. I won't defend Ameobi for what he did and when he was sent off the game was over but Boumsong says it wasn't a foul on Bent when they scored their first."

A year previously Knight had controversially dismissed Andy O'Brien at Villa Park (a decision he subsequently refused to reconsider)

But at least he had the decency to admit he was wrong in 2001 when he reversed the red card awarded against Gary Speed in another game against the Villa.

A particularly inept game at Stamford Bridge in September 2002 saw Knight come in for a volley of criticism during the match from Newcastle officials, player and fans.

That proved to be his final Premiership game of that season, Luton v Mansfield and Torquay v Bournemouth being seen as a more appropriate use of his "talents."

In the words of the Pet Shop Boys, what have we done to deserve this?

PS - After Arsenal, Graeme Souness made a comment about not mentioning referees this season.

Well, if he's to keep to that vow next weekend, it may be advisable to have a bomb disposal team on standby, to assist in defusing the manager....

Quite simply if Fergie or Wenger had to put up with that much shite from one ref they would see that he never reffed them again, in fact if they had to put up with what we do they'd see he never breathed again!!!

We are utlimately soft as shite and don't give these bastards the kicking they require for shitting on us game after game.

Just updated from .COM....

From the official Premier League website on Wednesday afternoon, an apparent outbreak of common sense:

Newcastle United v West Ham United

Referee: Dermot Gallagher

KICK OFF: 15:00 Sat 20 Aug

Liverpool v Sunderland

Referee: Barry Knight

KICK OFF: 15:00 Sat 20 Aug

In the wake of the furore following Sunday's game, the FA have altered their original plan to send Barry Knight to Tyneside next Saturday.

Steve Bennett doesn't have a game....

So Souness didn't shout and scream after the Arsenal game and the card was reduced. Not much from the powers that be was said about Barry Knight and he's been given a different game to ref. Not bad going.

It’s time to put on makeup. It’s time to dress up right.

It’s time to raise the curtain on the Muppet Show tonight.

Why do we always come here? I guess we’ll never know.

It’s like a kind of torture to have to watch the show.
