JawD 99
On Talk Sport yesterday MQ was waffling about the reason we've been slow in buying in that because of last seasons spending, we're basically skint. Nothing we havent heard aleady I guess. Saying we were hoping to offload Butt, Boumsong etc so get some cash. However, my own opinion is that even if no more players leave (I though Faye would have been off by now), I cant imagine even FS would allow us to go into the new season with our strikeforce how it is. Ok, maybe we are looking for cut price deals, even maybe temporariily. Be interesting to see what they have to say at that talk in tomorrow night. Scottish Mag 3
If we were skint, I do not see why we would have admitted to scouting Kuyt its not like the money made from selling Boumsong etc would have financed such a move. It also would not make sense for us to knock back moves for JFH on a free either.
Bombadil 0
Shepherd has to try and make money available. This bit from today's Journal says it all: The Magpies will only have one out-and-out striker - Shola Ameobi - available for their Intertoto Cup clash with Norway's Lilleström on Saturday. And he has only just returned to training following an injection to help settle a long-standing hip problem. Support and cover for Ameobi will be provided by James Milner and Albert Luque, two specialist wingers who can also play through the middle in an emergency. That, though, perfectly sums up Roeder's offensive situation as he attempts to ensure his side do not slip up against opponents who are in the middle of their domestic campaign and occupy second-place in the table. Support and cover for Ameobi! It's Shola who should provide cover for at least ten other players ahead of him.
David Kelly 1328
I'm sure we pretty skint at the moment but Fat Fred has to weigh this up with what our financial situation would be like after relegation (which would be a serious threat given our current attacking options). I don't believe even he is so stupid to allow this to happen so I do expect signings to be made regardless of whether or not we get rid of the dead wood in the squad. I just don't think we should expect anything other than these signings being relatively cheap players coming in to do the job of trying to maintain our current position (ie comfortably mid table with a chance of wafa competition). We won't be making the type of signings that will get us back challenging for a champions league spot any time soon. Especially as we will need to build up a decent kitty for Shearer. geordieshandy 0
I would reckon we're waiting on making sure we qualify for the UEFA, thus ensuring a bit more money in the bank

Yet we don't comment on transfer speculation, except to deny we are signing him...
