Scottish Mag 3
Shola Ameobi has handed Newcastle a boost ahead of their Intertoto Cup campaign, with the gangly striker informing manager Glenn Roeder he does not require surgery on his hip. The forward was plagued by the complaint last term and it was expected that the 24-year-old would head for surgery during the close season. Ameobi visited his consultant this week, with the surgeon informing Ameobi that the problem had settled down. With Ameobi now not needing to go under the knife, he will be free to spearhead Newcastle's push for a Uefa Cup place. "It will not be necessary for Shola to have any operation," Roeder told the club's website. "Instead, he has had a scan on his hip which highlighted the problem and, in the end, the specialist gave him an injection which we hope will clear everything up for once and for all. "That means that Shola will be available for our Intertoto Cup match in the middle of July, which is good news because if he hadn't, as things stand, we would have been left with just one recognised striker in Albert Luque." Papa Lazaru 0
I always worry when any toon player who has been plagued by an injury is told they don't need a op after all becuse you can bet your life later on down the line they'll have played far from their best due to the injury and will end up having the op and being out ages anyway! Bombadil 0
The season finished a month ago. Why didn't he visit his consultant then?

Why didn't he visit his consultant then? 149844[/snapback] That sounds a bit too much like sensible thinking to me, and that has no place at NUFC!!! Plus he probably was holding off the risk of an op till the last minute in case Sven gave him a call to cover for Rooney
TheInspiration 1
Brilliant, we'll now have two fit strikers for our game.

Tom_NUFC 0
Good news. I've no doubts Shola will go on to score 20+ goals next season. Definite contender for the Golden Boot I'd have thought.
sweetleftpeg 0
Make or break season for him. He's fit, Shearer isn't here, no excuses. Mind, if he starts badly then he'll be away because I expect the shit he gets to triple this season.
Holden McGroin 6783
I think he'll be down the pecking order this season if we buy another 2 strikers.
