Gemmill 46141
According to The Daily Mirror, 'Michael Owen furiously demanded showdown talks with Sven Goran Eriksson after being substituted in England's World Cup opener.' Owen was hauled off after just 55 minutes of the Three Lions' win over Paraguay. The newspaper claims that 'Owen is bitterly upset with Eriksson for dragging him off and failing to spell out why he was replaced by left-winger Stewart Downing.' An 'angry and frustrated Owen' then 'watched the rest of the game in a sulk and was later furious in the dressing room.' Sven is said to have placated the striker and publicly continues to insist that the striker remains central to his World Cup plans. However, Owen was badly off the pace against Paraguay in Frankfurt and reports that Sven is ready to risk introducing Wayne Rooney against Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday highlights the concern felt over the Newcastle forward's lame pefrormance. Probably bollocks like. Doesn't sound like Owen's style tbh.
