as much as i disagree with leazesmag's view that closing our borders would reduce the number of potential of terrorists attacks in the uk, i do think that the british muslim community should speak out and condem the fundamentalists much more than they have.

there are a lot of impressionable young muslims in britain today that see the mess we've created in iraq and afghanistan and feel disenfranchised.

muslim leaders and imams need to make sure that that young BRITISH muslims know that it is wrong to blow yourself and others up or fly a plane into a building.

I think perhaps a lot do, although probably more could and should. It doesn't make the papers / get as much coverage as the nutters who condone / encourage terrorism though.

that's right. you get the occasional muslim leader on newsnight condeming fanaticism and hate preachers, but i don't think it's enough.

young kids need to be taught not to be brainwashed by the fundamentalists and the british muslim community must be more proactive in doing so - this course of action would also give less fuel to leazesmag and others of his ilk.

what we've done in the middle east is wrong but it's no excuse for young british kids attacking innocent civilians in their own land.

these kids must be taught that two wrongs don't make a right and that there aren't a dozen virgins waiting for them if they blow themselves up in the name of jihad. these are not the teachings of the koran and i think it's the religious leaders' duty to make this more clear than they have done.

Agree, especially the bit in bold.

yet another possible reasonable remark ruined by cheap daft jibes. Just like the unprovoked one Alex made towards Pilchard chops.

I could equally say, that as you disagree with me that opening the door for more immigration also opens the door for more extremists to slip through, it is then therefore increasing the odds that "young kids would be brainwashed for the fundamentalists", which of course, is a perfectly logical statement whatever you think of "my ilk" or what I think of "your ilk".

And if you disagree that we should not have sensible controlled immigration, what is your view on the effects to our already overstretched social services, housing and economy ?

This country needs an influx of migrants for the foreseeable future in order to pay for the Welfare State of our ageing population. FACT!

A few idiots should have a good, long hard think as to why there is immigration in this country. It takes a real clown to completely overlook this.

On the subject on 'ordinary muslims.' The media is not interested in moderate people on telly, they are interested in making sure extremists get as much coverage as possible because it keeps their ratings up.

There are other interested parties, political and corporate who are quite happy for this to go on as it promotes the idea that we are all in terrible, imminent danger and we should support our boys overseas who are busy securing their influence and fortune in oil rich lands and also give up some basic rights to freedom at home. It's terrorism of a different form, using terror and paranoia until we overule our ability to discriminate against this bullsh*t.

The people i truly feel for are those who have bought into this ideal and have to suffer losing a loved one in some desert, fighting a fight to make some rich c*nt richer.

it wasn't a personal dig. i don't agree with your point of view, but i understand that you and others that share your beliefs would find it more difficult to argue your case if the uk muslim community made more of an effort to condem the radicals.

for every fundamentalist nutcase that migrates to our country, there are scores of honest hardworking people. and believe it or not, the terrorists involved in the 7/7 bombings were british citizens, not bogus asylum seekers.

we're talking about second or third generation asian britons here. so i don't see immigration policy as the main cause for concern here. the threat looms from within our own borders from british muslims - closing our borders will not address this.

our economic strength is built on our immigration policy. london's economy would probably collapse without the influx of cheap labour from abroad.

and (going slightly off topic), london's diversity is, for me, what makes it such an exciting city to live in. i love the way i can go to brick lane for the best curry in the land, or call for a japanese, thai, or vietmenese delivery at any time day or night.

our immigration policy, like america, is what makes our country such a vibrant and economically sound place to live.

Look, there isn't really a middle ground here. Leazes is a racialist and we're a bunch of left wing subordinates who want the country run by gays and muslims, preferably after a few thousand innocent deaths in the name of Allah.

Well, I for one say 'ALL HAIL EMPEROR MEENZER!'
