davedunn 0
What for though? 136301 A day where Geordies can wear their colours proudly for the whole day and also to remember the legend that is, Alan Shearer. Peter Beardsley was quoted in a recent Evening Chronicle article saying that he too, would like to see an annual Black and White Day. Guest alex
I wasn't too enamoured with this one really, thought it was a bit over the top. An annual one though, especially if it's for Shearer is way over the top. Fair enough if it's to celebrate the club I suppose. Scottish Mag 3
I would have thought you would be concentrating on getting the Brummies back in the premiership rather than on a black and white day.
Craig 6682
A black and white day? What's the fucking point - we have a black and white day every other Saturday at SJP. The brain-child of Frederick the Great no doubt! It's almost as laughable as 'Bergkamp Day' at Highbury the other week - what a fucking insult to the rest of the team (and all the Arsenal players of old) that was. Commericalism gone stupid - stick to playing football!

Optimistic Nut 146
As Craig said, we have a black & white day every other weekend in Newcastle, and if we want to remember Shearer we can watch our videos & DVDs.

Particularly as Bergkamp has done his 10 years? 136320 Well, wasn't the idea of testimonials for players picking up the money as reward for their long standing services and a sort of starting capital for their time out of football. So players (in todays commercialised game) don't need the money any more. You can argue about giving it to charity. But as tribute for loyality I think those theme days are fantastic idea. Craig 6682
I concur about the royalties thing and wish players would follow on from the examples set by both Niall Quinn and Shearer and hand all the reddies over. I dunno, I just found that 'theme day' all a bit cheesy, particularly for West Brom who were in the middle of a relegations scrap....

Jill 0
That black and white day last week was fucking stupid.. I saw loads of people in black & white on the day of the testimonial but the next day on the supposed 'black & white' day everyone had clearly put their shirt in the wash as I saw about two people wearing black and white.. Geordie Boyo 24
We could have a Marcelino day where we all take turns at wacking a massive pinata with his face on it?

The decorations on Grey's Monument, the Theatre Royal etc were majorly cringeworthy. Is it actually someone's job to think up this shit?

sweetleftpeg 0
I propose a 'Let Shearer Go Day'. Basically, we give lectures about how Shearer doesn't play for the club anymore and that we have to move on. If that doesn't work, then the latest memory wiping equipment is being shipped over from Japan specially for the day.

I was on TV for it Anyway, he really appreciated the gesture, even though he was getting a testimonial later on.
