David Kelly 1260
If we (and by that I mean the clowns in charge not us fans who know we have no chance) do still have any lingering hope that we can sign Owen, we need to get in there and make a formal bid quickly so that we can smoke out Manure and Liverpool if they're interested. Otherwise we will just let this drag on until the transfer window closes and be left with nothing. Hang on, on second thoughts that's exactly what will happen! ewerk 31195
No doubt we'll sit waiting for his decision until the 30th August then he'll turn us down and we'll be left with no new strikers.

Jimbo 175
From today's football365 Michael Owen has not ruled out a move to Newcastle despite their lack of European football, according to reports. The Sun says that the England striker is keeping an open mind about the north-east club as he looks for a way out of Real Madrid, where he is facing a season as fifth-choice striker. He would link up with his former international teammate Alan Shearer and would be guaranteed a first-team place. Owen's first and second choices were thought to be Manchester United and Liverpool, but a move to either looks unlikely. Newcastle are the only club willing to meet Real's £11m asking price, and it looks like Owen could take a year out of Europe to get regular football. Meanwhile, a report in the Daily Mail suggests that Newcastle could finally sign Luis Boa Morte from Fulham for £6m.

khay 10
Souness optimistic on Owen deal Robson backs Owen for Newcastle Newcastle manager Graeme Souness believes he has "a good chance" of signing Real Madrid and England striker Michael Owen. Capturing the 25-year-old forward would be a major coup for Souness, who needs replacements for the departed Craig Bellamy and Patrick Kluivert. Souness said: "I think there is a good chance of signing Owen. "We know all about Michael's situation - he is a target. But we also have other targets." I still wish GS would keep his mouth shut until the deal is done From S Have your say on 606 Souness is desperate for reinforcements with captain Alan Shearer his only fit and available striker. The Magpies travel to Arsenal for their Premiership opener on Sunday with Shola Ameobi suspended and Michael Chopra recovering from knee ligament damage. With the transfer window closing at the end of this month, Souness has less than three weeks to strengthen his squad. However, Owen has also been linked with a move to Manchester United, although the Old Trafford club deny they are interested. And Liverpool are also thought to be considering re-signing Owen - particularly if Czech striker Milan Baros is sold to Aston Villa. Newcastle officially ended their pursuit of Fenerbahce's Nicolas Anelka this week but they remain in the race to sign Fulham's Luis Boa Morte. still might happen.
