Isegrim 9761
Celta Vigo have shelved their interest in Newcastle midfielder Hugo Viana. The Spanish side had been locked in talks to sign the Portuguese international. Celta had hoped to sign Viana on loan with the option to buy, but Newcastle have turned down their offer as they want to sell him on a permanent basis. Newcastle are willing to let Viana leave as he is well down the pecking order at St James' Park, but only on their terms. Celta president Horacio Gomez has admitted the club have now dropped their interest in Viana. "The club discard the arrival of Hugo Viana for next season," said Gomez. It has also been suggested that Celta coach Fernando Vasquez was not so keen on Viana as he wants to bring in a more defensive player. The news is a blow for Viana as he is keen to win a move away from Newcastle as he seeks to get his career back on track. But, but, he IS a defensive midfielder...
