You're seriously telling me that he's clueless enough to play both his central midfielders out of position just get them in the team?

Jesus fucking wept!

No, Lampard plays in posistion, Gerrard doesn't therefore limiting his game. The midfield on a whole would work worse if the roles were reversed.

Gerrard is a better box-box midfielder than Lampard is

Gerrard is a far superior defensive midfieler than Lampard is

That's why Eriksson plays them the way they do.

Won't disagree on Terry or Rooney. Gonna have to agree to disagree on Gerrard though.

Goes without saying tbh.

That's a pretty narrow definition of top class like. I'd definitely say Owen was top class.

Well, it is of course open to opinion, maybe top class should be seperate from world class?

I dunno like, I'd probably rate Henry, Rooney, Ronaldinho, Shevchenko, Eto and Adriano (amognst others) as world class. They couldn't all get in a World XI at the same time though. I would agree that you have to be fantastic to be 'world class' though and it's an overused phrase too. I think there's an argument for Owen being a 'world class' goalscorer though.

Fair point about the strikers as that's probably where the theory falls down about a World XI but I'd still hold that as a borderline criteria due to the fact the phrase is over-used so much.

Ah, its a while since we've had the "world class" debate, but it always comes round again.

Firstly there is an ever present problem that world class means different thing to different people. But to say world class = getting into a world XI is ludicrous, as that means there can only ever be 11 world class players at anyone time and they have to be in 11 different positions. So if you have 3 of histories greatest strikers aroudn at the same time one of them by definition isn't world class!!!

An as for Owen he blatantly is a world class striker. Strikers have to score goals, and he does it against the best the prem has to offer, the best europe has to offer and the best international football has to offer. He does it in every tournament big or small and when the pressure is on. He's going to end up Englands all time greatest scorer taking over from Charlton and to say he isn't world class is a joke to tbh.

Back on the original subject, Crouch is still a decent player imo - I can see him making a difference, but simply not scoring enough. He hasn't been a great signing though - very poor start, and on and off since then, but still not scored enough.

As for Lampard and Gerrard, I'm sure the debate's been done to death - both are world-class. But Gerrard is undeniably the superior player overall imo.
