It was always likely, or at least i always thought they'd bomb out of both cups at the same time and suddenyl realise they'd done shite in the league and had nothign to take from the whole season (sounds familiar!)

I would expect Steaua to score in the return leg as they look capable and as long as they don't do a Basel and collapse it'll be curtians for the smogs.

Totally agree.

The sheer number of games is starting to catch up with them now. Shame ;)

Truly, truly devastated for them. ;)

There'll be a cloud over Middlesbrough tonight. ;)

There always is a cloud over Boro, made from smog.

I wouldn't blame McLaren. In fact he seems to have a plan b (swithing between 3-5-2 and 4-4-2) and isn't scared to chuck extra strikers on to try and change a game (vs. Basle).

Better than Svens vanilla 4-4-2 and like-for-like subs.

I think McClaren is very similar to Sven which is why i dont want him there. I think he will give the players eg Beckham too much power and will be a 'yes' man

Can anyone remember a recent England game (Euro 2004 ???) when things were going pear-shaped and something needed changing and the camera panned to Eriksson and McClaren on the bench. Swen was dumbstruck and McClaren was seen saying 'Sven? Sven? Sven?' This showed that McClaren at least knew something needed to be done - whether the swede did anything or not.

The Sven plan b: Put Owen Hagreaves on. Sit down again. Stare into the middle distance. In silence.

126650

EXACTLY!! ;) That's who Jeeenus reminds me of. I was trying to think of Hargreaves' name the other day, but he is so innocuous I couldn't!

Anyway, you're right about Sven's plan B ;)

Or he could have just been panicking and had no clue what to do.

I don't think the FA are going to be very happy with Boro's results this week - even last week when McClaren was getting plaudits it didn't stop people criticising their supposed number one choice.

For what it's worth I think McClaren will be no worse than Sven, which will do for me, so long as we get O'Neill.

Luis Felipe Scolari has emerged as the new favourite for the England job after the FA realised that nobody wanted Steve McClaren.

The Boro boss had looked set to get the nod simply because the panel could not agree on an outstanding candidate, but lack of support from the media and the public could see them think again.

Portugal boss Scolari has always been the choice of Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein, who has pushed strongly for the man who won the World Cup with Brazil.

Dein has fought against appointing the continuity candidate in McClaren, who is nobody's favourite but the least offensive alternative.

The panel will meet for the final time on Wednesday to make a decision, with Noel White and Dave Richards likely to have to climb down on their insistence on an English manager

I don't think the FA have got a clue who they want tbh. I think other managers and players should shut up and just let them get on with it. Couldn't believe Southgate coming out yesterday and saying that his own manager wasn't ready for the job yet. ;) Also today Stuart Pearce is questioning the idea of it being Scolari. Shut it! ;)

As far as the fans go, they deserve nowt from this or any other season.

126722

Empty seats in the Holt end yesterday!!! If they ever get to another semi-final they should play the game at a smaller venue with Boro getting only 1/4 of the capacity. Shower of shit tbh.

Well played WHU, wasnt they shouting for Pardew to go at one point?

126799

About a year ago, they only just scrapped into the play-offs. Proves Souness wasn't given enough time here I reckon.

You'd better believe it! The phone-ins were chokka bloc with irate irons fans wanting him out.

There was even a consortium (led by that little twat that went to play for Everton - Cottee) ready to take over with Cottee being interviewed on talkSPORT and saying Pardew would be got rid of.

Funny old game.

Did you see Pardew run over to the fans and do a little dance when they scored?  Quality. ;)

126807

Yeah, I saw it on MOTD2. Then he ran back to his bench, went for a high-five with someone and missed completely. ;)
